Where I was honked at / harassed today

A motorist with a free lane to their left came up behind me shortly after passing this marker and held down their horn for a good 5 seconds. I was riding about 24mph. Note the sign and lane markings. Thought this forum would get a kick...

He was totally justified, after all, you are a red light running, uninsured, unregistered vehicle using HIS road!

Maybe the ignorant fool got a new horn for Christmas and just wanted to use it.

BTW I just noticed the last four letters of ignorant------------------rant, and that is what he wanted to do.

IMO, there is only one response that is appropriate here. And it's not smile and/or wave.

And just 200 yards from this sign.

A 25 mph road turns into a 35 mph at the Phoenix border. I take it cars don't actually keep to the 35 mph limit on this stretch?

The "Bikes may use full lane" signs apparently are read by one class of road user - cyclists.
The sharrows help, but they probably need to be more frequent.

We've been experimenting with sharrows on steroids. They are going to add lime green this spring. (Some cyclists seem to be mistaking the dotted lines closest to the parked cars as the edge of a bike lane. The lime green ought to help - if a bit more of a problem in wet weather.)

But what if you don't need to go right then?

Oh yes, they got two finger points from me: one pointed down at the sharrows, and the other one up at - well you know...

I am not surprised. You were on THEIR road, in THEIR lane, and blocking THEIR vehicle. How dare you have a right to be on the road.

Keep on biking!!!

Takes all kinds.

I remember being honked at on a clear sunny day with no one else around, and two lanes open to my left... driver just had to honk at the only OTHER road user...

I remember one time when I was riding and got a long honk. I was in process of raising my finger when I realized it was a good friend getting my attention and waving. That said, I still salute the honkers, just more carefully.

For people that know me really well personally(face-to-face). It bugs me when they honk to say 'hi'. While it is a seemingly nice gesture. I can't decipher the honk to turn my head to wave. I am too busy focusing on the traffic. So I will end up thinking it is another ignorant motorist.

a couple of years ago, I was riding to work over Christmas break, which around here means there is no traffic whatsoever. I was riding in the road (2 lanes each way) because there was ice all over the bike path and no worries about traffic. Two motorists honked obnoxiously at me even though there was no other traffic in sight. Would have loved to confront them and tell them to go back to cletusville, but no such luck.

You don't pay road tax so why are you on his road?
Roads are for cars. That's what they tell me.

I have been honked at a couple of times...both told to get on the sidewalk. I just keep riding and ignore them.

99% of drivers dont know that roads were put in place in the late 1800s at the behest of cyclist wanting good roads to ride on. So in fact cars are late day interlopers on cyclist road

BTW being old and rather irascible, if given an uneeded long honk when the left lane is open, I would render a signal indicating his IQ of one.

Wait, so the former statement is speaking from experience?

(Hehe, sorry; couldn't resist.)
