With a 30 ft radius of a cell phone jammer mounted on a bicycle, that equates to less than a second's worth of travel time for someone driving a car at 25 mph...... basically a why bother.

I knew about them. They've been around awhile.

Anybody familiar with Bluetooth should realize it wouldn't be hard to do.

Of course not. It really would have to effect a particular phone (as I said). Jammers are nonspecific (among other problems).

Agreed. The idea of using a jammer is just too non specific... as we have discussed here.

More like wishful thinking on someone's part, and with a possible second or two of service interruption, it would barely be noticed by the motorist.

+1

I think use of a jamming device by a cyclist in traffic would increase risk - to all in the vicinity.

While some of us are fantasizing here, how about a device that would cause every phone in use within 100 feet of me to burst into flames? Or at least get skillet hot. I would empty my savings for such a device.

Only if it jams their posts and not ours.

That said, I think this thread is done now, we're all going around in circles iterating the same arguments over again. If increased risk to safety, huge fines and the fact that the device will almost certainly block things the OP doesn't want to block, hasn't convinced the OP that this idea should be abandoned, nothing will.

I guess be on the listen out for a news story where a cyclist gets busted for jamming mobile phone signals: it'll probably be someone we know.

+1. I think drivers get more distracted when they're all "What??? Why didn't my text go through???"

'Ain't that the truth… thankfully it's only on the really high-end vehicles that I've seen this which just means we have to watch out for $RICHPRICK playing with his toys and treating all other road users with contempt.

Those who aren't bothered about showing off their wealth are less likely to bother with such a gimmick.

But, you know, those will only be used by passengers and in emergency situations...

This is just a cellphone embedded in the car. It isn't doing anything that people can't already do with a normal smartphone (that allows tethering).

They do sell devices which swamp the cell signal inside the car, so that everything is first routed through the device. It is possible to disable texts, whitelist devices etc. It is legal to use them. I was tempted by just the idea but no one uses a phone while driving in my car anyway so it would have been pointless.

Do you have a link to an example?

Wounds like you are talking about something like a cellphone booster.
