I sailed through the Suez Canal once. That is as close as I came to being on Egyptian soil. I would love to get there and ride someday but I don't think it would be anytime soon.

Hey
My name is Ahmed Hamzawy, me and my friends started Cairo Cycler's Club, we have weekly tours every friday from Agouza to Zamalek, you can find our group on facebook where you can join us and learn more about our events and the other members, or visit www.cairocyclersclub.com
All you need is your bike it's ok if you don't have one "but you better do" you can rent a bike as many members do. It doesn't matter what's you bike mtb, road, fixie or whatever we just hanging out and enjoying fun with the nile scenes.
I'm in Kuwait at the moment and I'll back next sunday. Call me if you in cairo sometime 0102984732
Cheers!

Alex
I lived in Alex from 2001 to 2004 and rode, mostly on Friday. Used to go out to Rashid and back. Sometimes rode from Sidi Abdel Rahman either east or west, and did a few rides on the Sinai with the Cairo Cycling Club. Never saw many cyclists in Alex, the most we ever had for a ride was 4. Glad to see you are keeping the sport going.....

Try the Cairo Cycling Club. Meet on Fridays at 6 a.m. at the American School in Maadi - that was the schedule when I was there last. Mostly road bikes.

BikeCape2Cape coming through Egypt
I am biking from North Cape, Norway to Cape Agulhas, South Africa together with two friends. We will probably bike into Egypt by the end of February. If anyone has any good tips about biking in Egypt, please PM me, or contact us at www.bikecape2cape.com. We are especially worried about the roads South in the country..

egyptions are so welcoming and a tourist with a bike is a movie star
the roads conditions r not bad but there is no special track for bikes and must be so carful at the turns and crossroads
the south is called upper egypt so if you take it from south to north you wont need to paddle much
and if you want to take it from delta to upper egypt you need to be a superman
bike stealing is very good business there but egyption thefts rarly go violent so keep your bike in a safe place and lock it every time
do not bike in cairo its very high polluted hawever you will not die crossing it
cover your head and if you the face from the sun
