This is what happens when I have parts that fit together that really weren't meant to. 26" fork, 650A wheel (590x37 tire, english 3 speed type), 16" coaster brake in the back. Drops/stem from parts bikes. The kid is my 11y/o son. He's quite a character!

Flip the tires around, and that's pretty much what I did to a few bike parts around your son's age. It was a nice little bike, until I broke the fork. Ah, the joys of childhood.

Guess what I found this morning:

    That might be a problem:

Now it is laying on the floor in the garage all striped down. I don't think I'm gonna do anything with it. Too far gone.

Also, me and my freind went over to an old guys house that fixes up old bikes and sells them. We got this for $15!!! Don't know how nice it was in the day, but the guy said it was a $700 bike when it was new. We sure had a fun time riding back home. This bike it rediculous, plus my freind was trying to carry his skateboard at the same time.

That's like the guy who came into the shop today and said he was told his Mongoose MTB was worth $300. I had to hold my hand over my mouth to keep from laughing!

With plastic pedals, stem shifters, foam grips, kickstand, suicide levers, etc. I think it is fair to assume that gentleman was sorely mistaken on the MSRP of that bike.

That Spider-Man pixie is pretty awesome though!

    Those pedals are steel.

[edit] The guys in C&V can probably give him the history of that model.

I don't think it's a top end model, but it is a nice lugged steel Raleigh. You may indeed wish to ask the folks in Classic & Vintage about it, as there are more than a couple of people who can tell you more about it.

chain tension was indeed a problem. i used a halflink. its actually a little too tight, and im hoping either the chain will give me a little stretch soon or i'll find a more used one. i didnt have any other chainrings in a reasonable gearing or i would have monkeyed around with gearing to get the right chain length. chain tensioning problems are frustrating and time consuming, luckily the mailbox tensioning was very simple.

It'll stretch quickly unless it's some really high quality, newer chain.

    My new assaccre!

16" in back 12" up front (currently flat). Skateboard deck back rest, custom foot pegs.

1" of clearance! This baby flys, I think it needs a fairing too though, because you sit so upright. Can't wait to zoobomb it again - this time with BRAKES! Wheee!

You kick it like a scooter to get speed, then at once you're going you slide into a sitting position with your legs on the front pegs.

    The Blastaccre.

Rad Amerika - These Colors Don't Run, They Bomb!

My new racing mini. Drop bars, fairing (version 1.0), 52/16, schwalbe 110psi slicks, schwinn pixie frame. Still need to tweak it a tad more, gunna put a 16" fork with u/v brakes on there, and a new front wheel that matches the bike.

Tested it out at the Maryhill Loops Road the other day and it hauls ass!

Steven's Rollfast: Past, Present and Future

Not too trick, but it's what I like and I've worked hard to make it happen...

The basket will be transfomed into a handbuilt fairing and it will have full lighting and signals (LED) with my old Delco and a real motorcycle horn. The saddlebags only weigh 11 lbs and the rack is custom built by a friend at his farm shop job. It needs a rear wheel and possibly front bearings The tank is a reproduction for Columbia Supreme I understand and I bought it on clearance. There is a Hong Kong made piezo horn in the tank currently. The paint will be worth the wait!

As I said before, all that broke was 50-60 years old and should have quit a long time ago maybe...somehow that feels wonderful.

Interesting observation I've made: Ladies will stop and look it over thoroughly, especially older ladies, but guys (we're supposed to be impressed by these things) tend to walk by and pay little attention. Maybe I should have bought a tandem?

Here is one of my bikes you haven't seen, until now.
The fairing is fiberglass, and I added aluminum powder to the resin, so it came out grey.
No welding was done, I used 1 inch thick polyethylene plastic to make brackets. I drilled the polyethylene with a one and a quarter inch hole saw, and then screwed in 1 1/4" aluminum tube.
The support for the seat is like no other, and will never be repeated.
