Today in Portand...

I rode in the Pedalpalooza opening parade with 150 other cyclists, including at least four tall bikes, the red shoe bike, a swing bike, choppers, minis, and a bunch of other cyclists. Two weeks, over 100 events! If you're here, be there!

I was in Portland 2 weeks ago for a long weekend
The most civiliized city I've been to ever. People stopped for YELLOW lites. Peds had right of way, bike lanes everywhere, saw 100s of bike riders, the downtown nicer than any other downtown, and the old houses and neighborhoods......plus the rhododendrons were blooming.... a show in themselves. GREAT coffee everywhere.PLUS there was an REI store, nearest one to where I live now is 600miles away.Went in and thought I had died and gone to heaven. Drove up to Mt Hood on a Saturday Morning, lotsa white stuff someone said was something called snow(?), very cold though and folks were fooling around with somethings strapped to their feet, long, narrow going downhills fast so they weren't snowshoes
Saw a guy riding on the way to the mountain. all wrapped in warm clothes pedaling up the long grade on RT 26 maybe. on my return trip someone had stopped and offered him a ride and they were loading his bike into the rear of a pikup.
Seemed like a nice place to live

i can echo travelingguyrt's sentiments. we spent a week in PDX in march, tooling around on rented bikes and being impressed by the bike network, other cyclists, and the city in general. even the drivers were polite and.

pedalpalooza sounds like a complete blast. i am envious. have a riot good time!
