Cool video. Cool seeing all those bikes. Great cycling facilities. You ride with the intelligence of a lower order primate.

I am going to be in Amseterdam in March. I plan on renting a bike, because I am a cycling fanatic and enthusiast. Dumb question, but are hand signals the same, etc?

handsignals are not really neccesary as long as you keep riding on the special bike-paths, you get a ticket when you drive without working lights or when you don't ride on those lanes as you can see in my latest masterpiece "badcop"

I really enjoyed the two videos. Now I have an idea of what Amsterdam is like on a bike.

I rented a bike when I was there for a weekend last summer, great riding around the city, how bike lanes should be. Just try not to get killed by a tram

Loved the videos. Almost makes me hope that our gas prices go up to $10/Gallon. That probably won't happen for 10-15 years. Hope I'M still physically able to ride then.

just got back from utrecht and groningen, and the biking scene was really amazing. everyone was on bikes, there were even modified bikes so folks could carry FOUR KIDS AND GROCERIES!!!!! it was sweet! the streets are made for bikes, and cars are almost a rarity (not really, but they don't come by too often) people from 4-80 years old literally flood the streets. i didn't want to leave. but i did.

tenx for your reactions everybody!
if you have a digicam with moviemode or any other video-device, please get on your bike, film a little trip and send me your (raw) bike-footage, it would be great to have some kind of international research-bikeproject
my amsterdam mobility-adventures are growing into some serious epic proportions somehow by itself, further research-data can be found on the bike-research-page of my 'work in progress'-website.

Very informative.
Whoohoo! No SUVs in Amsterdam! Saw a few minivans.
It looks like it would be impractical to cycle fast on that route.

blackberry, most digital photocamaras have a movie mode and they are quite right, most of my bike adventures are shot with the new ricoh gr didital; a wideconverted compactcamera it produces avi-files and they are easy and fast to edit, some films are in 16/9 hdv, taken with a real camera and downconverted to mpeg, it's not complicated to edit but time consuming, and not practical to cycle around with
so my advise is the movie mode and the compactcamera have fun and get me the results yes!

I agree watch for the trams!!! I was there shortly after being in London, where all the traffic goes the "wrong" way, and I was a mess!j I looked like a four year old double checking ten times before crossing a street. If you have the time and a little dough, go for a Mikes' Bikes' tour. I highly reccomend it.
