Homestretch for the Hawthorne/A Nasty Scratch!/"Desert Living"...

I have just received the 3V halogen Cateye light I got in a Pay It Forward from rccardr to retrofit in the bullet light...

    THANK YOU!

The Hawthorne itself is over at the LBS getting the last tube, puncture sealant and liners. A shipment of baskets arrived last week and now I have those and am looking for a flat (no holes) rack to have all the items I wanted together. I want to present it when the new owner returns to their offices on the 2nd.

The Rollfast has a nasty scratch on the top bar...right at the border of the two blues...see the attachment...I have to ask the sign people how I can fix and protect it. The graphics aren't even ready and I'm using all the kid gloves I can.

I got a new carpet in my living room and I was hardly aware I lived in the desert...

See some of the incredible things that happen under a 30 year old carpet (none gross) below. Also see how much stuff goes into a living room when you are ME

    PICTURES!

Did you say you wanted PICTURES?

    okay.

One for now. The frame patches are coming up and Hawthorne chainguard, rack plus the Flyer's delta light...we ARE in the homestretch, as I said!

One for now. The frame patches are coming up and Hawthorne chainguard, rack plus the Flyer's delta light...we ARE in the homestretch, as I said!

*Vinyl work by TNT Signs and Graphics of Ontario, OR
    *Paint work by Nate Ragus
*Chainguard rolling and repair work by Monte McAvoy and his crew at the Gentry Ford-Subaru Body Shop, Ontario, OR
*Columbia Supreme reproduction tank and Rollfast decal used for creating graphics details from Memory-Lane Classics
*Some graphics elements, primarily the flattened headbadge design were created by Bike Forums member AHemp, Cory Easom and me.
*Original color and design schemes devised by me.
*Custom fabrication (pannier frame) and welding repairs to Tempest perfomed by Gary Shields (a genius)!

Other parts provided by the following:

If I didn't mention eBay member Tommygrass sold me the Rollfast in the first place, I'd be a lowndown dog, wouldn't I?

Bicyclebones: Delta lamp shell, various brackets, handlebars for the Hawthorne
Let 'Em Roll Bikes (eBay) sold me the NUVO twin kickstand which came with a free Electra bell.
Rufus11 on eBay sold me the blue Rollfast headbadge.
Kustombikes (eBay member) sold me old school lighting parts, etc
Somebody in California (eBay) sold me the motorcycle panniers but I can't find them yet. It's in the slideshow I had on Windows Live Spaces before I pulled it and I saved all of that.
Fruitland Power Sports, Fruitland ID sold me the Honda dirt cycle taillight and a used Vetter windshield (which unfortunately was broken before it could be used).
I'm not sure where the Rollfast got it's current handlebars except to say they may be from an earlier bike or else I can't remember who sold them to me.
-----, another eBay member provided the model-corrrect Hawthorne/Rollfast chainguard replacement, before the original was found. This is the finished guard shown below with the originals guard's brackets, a matter of necessity as the guard was already waiting and my original needed work and would cost more than I had at the time...hence I sanded and painted the brackets for remounting.
eBay member Deluxe Cycle Supply in Nevada sold me a 12V Vintage style Harley type horn for Tempest.
eBay member dao.peach sold me the 1961 Pontiac Tempest badge and trim set of which some is used on Tempest.

(I am finding names as fast as I can to fill in the blanks)

The replacement rims and tires for Tempest plus countless other parts and services on all my bicycles were provided by Making Tracks Cyclery (Todd Heinz then Chris Ragus)...
Kmart and Bi-Mart in Ontario, OR for lots of tubes, tires and various essentials.

And one of the greatest helpers of them all, TENACITY fronting INSANITY!

Dare I forget all the money I funneled into this dubious economy. Since it was mostly Social Security I think I can rightly call it "stimulus money" or Cash for 'Clunkers' without giving anything to the junkman. Works for me.

AND OF COURSE, MY MOM! She knows her stuff!

It's like being in Philadelphia in 1789, present at the creation, or whatever.

    Very exciting!

The Cateye Halogen 3V light is mounted and the turn signal is being worked on for the Hawthorne--so far the lights and batteries are good but no light. Maybe I need to ground it to the chassis. These are the last things to install while waiting for the chainguard and rack to get their vinyl wraps and then the final assembly and testing will occur prior to delivery.

This bike only took three months instead of three years although it was more about money and parts than all the stuff I went through to get to where I currently am with Tempest...

THANK YOU RCCARDER for the PIF light. I really appreciate it. That's it below!

So is this update at this point!

I was offline with line troubles for 4 days (which I have attributed to MY OWN rigged extension line into the other room so I finally called the phone company and told them to do it RIGHT) and the look is clean and hopefully much simpler and productive. Also, the database seems to be intact (la grande PLUS!) so let's GO!

More work in progress and plans...and hope you have had a fine holiday!

When I hit Manage Attachments, it always meant to add pix to use as thumbnails! What was the menu I got about and is it going to DELETE a bunch of previous pix in an HOUR???

Nope, it ATE Windows Explorer while trying to drag and drop.

It's NOT going to work today.

Well, maybe the pics aren't working well but I found a like new Trek cruiser-type seat on Craigslist for $20 and it is PHAT/FAT/WELL-STUFFED TOO, says Gilligan...

I almost have all my small amount to holiday shopping DONE! CL and what I have been fixing and working on for the most part. 'Stuffing' is well named!

    Later!

How in the hell do I add new pictures? It looks like drag and drop but there's an empty box and when I tried that all I got was my Picture Viewer in XP...

It's completely counter-intuitive and it shouldn't be like trying to find all the bonuses in a Mario World.

Use photobucket or flickr. Because even once you've attached pictures, nobody else can see them anyway. Yeah the new forum software rocks.

I'm using IE 7 with Windows XP. If you cannot see the sketching done of the picture of my Western Flyer in #340, you are trying too hard?

That was posted a few days ago. I'm trying to figure out the new system as it was blind chance that got it up.

    Thanks for the enthusiam.

At least for me when I click on the thumbnails, it opens up a tiny blank box. Every time since the new software was installed. I can see the thumbnails, but I can't get the larger versions to show up.

According to the Announcement from IB Steph, there will be an outage tonight.

Well, maybe it will be better than the Immaculate Reception but it remains to be seen.

Meanwhile, nearly all parts for Tempest are ready to go, so too with the Hawthorne and I hope to be done by Christmas with my Rollfast. 27 months and a stolen Western Flyer is what it took to get there. Let's GO.

The green Hawthorne got a rubdown with Turtle Wax before I got it adjusted and sent it to it's proud new owner...merry christmas and all that. Eventually I will get some pictures up as you'd like the final results.

I hope I can find my itchy old ski mask as my face aches in the tropical 10F heatwave. I'm still as speedy though.
