The Hawthorne tank arrived today! Being as how I had never seen a full tank for this frame type (one that was a partial) so I am thrilled to say not only will it fit fine, it should be a great guide to make one for the Schwinn.

More parts and at least one bike are coming for me and our small bike program.

    Making progress, or amateurgress?

I've got four screw and the chain found and a question?

Is there supposed to be something in the depression in the front fender at the hole. I got one screw in thatjust doesn't keep it from moving...

but it's there and it, the rear one and the chain need to go on the air in the tires and THAT part is done, with the fairing and potorcycle panniers and electrical wiring to go and Tempest will be finished.

Not tomorrow but before summer I hope.

There was a slight change of plans about striping the fairing. The vinyl wasn't going to work and painting it would have been almost $300 so I had them polish it up, for which the Shop boss told be he decided not to charge me for it anyway.

Gentry Ford-Subaru has done a lot for me working on bike parts...the chainguard, vintage racks, fairing and many others. Their body shop is the best one in the far western Treasure Valley and they also repaired my 1986 Chevrolet Celebrity after I was backed into by a person after they had just paid their insurance next door to the doctor's office. Three days turnaround and I believe they had to order out of the area.

At least the premium has paid before the accident (I was inside)!

So I have a lot of experience with them.

The bike has fenders and a chain but I'm being told the fender braces are 24"?

I guess they were replaced by the guy that painted it?

Regular unpainted ones would probably work.

It's in the shed covered carefully to keep ot from damage, sitting upright and unhindered.

The next step is to add a seat post and the Troxel seat I bought here a couple months ago.

Oh, it's bad getting the nuts loose by banging a hammer against a monkey wrench...the seatpost clamp is in there in a bad spot so that taking the post out is horribly tough. It will be tough and I'm going to have to use my drill tool to scrape at some of it.

The front of the rack broke off at the collar before I ever saw it. There are mantis egg pods in the front fender and on one arm of the rack and I don't know it they are dead or I should just try to scrape them out. I've been studying it for the ways to disassemble it and this time I'll journal it...

Hopefully the old girlfriend it will go to will find it groovy.

The motorcycle panniers I bought early on have not held up well. I found the opportunity to find something much better...

They arrived today, exude excellence and inspired me to prep parts to paint for the Schwinn and Western Flyer.

    -This time FOR SURE!-

Yeah, did my homework this time around so I'm working on the Schwinn's wonderfully old non-OEM creased fenders, racks and I'm getting read to remove Tempest's panniers and modify the frame for the saddlebags. That badge is moving to the fairing! I have to figure out mounting taillights in my found object frame. It's a nice part and has room for a license plate frame in between. You'll see but I know where my cordless phone is, not my camera.

I can't make my camera beep you know.

Coming along even more...fairing still waiting (we'll get there, I told them I'm shooting for my 44th birthday in June). Debating using the pearl white, as it's $5.50 for a small can as it's actually model spraypaint.

Time to tear down the Ross in between these things.MVC-007S.JPG MVC-006S.JPG MVC-003S.JPG

A word of warning on model paints. They tend to be softer than most paints, and may be more prone to being attacked by clear coats.

Oh, GREAT! Short of paying a lot to have a body shop do it...I'll ask a guy at an independent shop if he has any work it could be worked in with. Only the tops need be that way--the bottoms will be a normal color. Here are the fender light body on the fender and the rack for the Schwinn...

I'm making good progress with painting the Ross' frame and taking it carefully as I don't have as much paint as I would like to be comfortable and I still have to clean a couple more parts and find nuts and bolts. I will post pictures soon.

Okay, here's something you don't see a lot of these days...

Here's the Ross chainguard. This made the diet root beer purchase worth it.

Too many things had to be done to finish it, but I went over to her place and showed her the frame and parts and she said I was the first person to even say Happy Birthday to her (is was after 6 pm) and she was pretty happy with the bike, just finish it like you need to.

I got as much time as I could from the guy that was driving so I could talk and give her a few more hugs. I'll get that bike done in a couple days and as spiffy as I can...my driver can help me as he's a good mechanic.

PS The other Federal-Mogul Signal-Stat 1300 amber marker light (NOS) arrived yesterday so now I have both rear turn signals for Tempest and the taillight and I can build the new rack and saddlebags setup.

    Not yet Dwluxe...

The chainguard...soon it will be. It'll look better than that, the sign shop has the original and I do elsewhere so I'll clean it up here in the morning.
