Christmas bike parade-some neat alt bikes

Last night was the 5th annual East Sac Nite Brite Bike Parade in Sacramento, CA. Hundreds of lit-up bikes cruised through the "Fabulous 40s" neighborhood in East Sacramento. There were several giant "Burning Man"-type bikes. One was a tandem quad made up like a toaster, one was a trike made up like a Roman chariot complete with merry-go-round horses, and the other was a high rise trike with electric hub motors on both rear wheels. The pedals drove the front wheel.

Here's video of the ride.

Some pics. The last 5 are screen captures from the video, so pardon the quality.

Interesting bikes. Be interesting to see them in the light too.

That's cool. We had about 30 bicycles in our local holiday parade, but not a parade of our own.

Thanks. This year was the biggest ever. They got a parade permit and police escort for rolling street closures to protect the riders.

My Casio EX-S12 digital camera in standard definition mode (640x480). HD on that camera is only 24fps, so it's choppier than SD mode, which is 30 frames per second. Also, HD mode stops recording after 23 minutes (4 GB). SD mode will record for almost an hour before stopping.

Many newer camcorders automatically create a new file once the 4 GB limit is reached, but this is a 2009 camera. My regular camcorders are even older. They are flash memory camcorders, but the picture has those NTSC scan lines like you get when you convert a VHS tape to digital format using a video capture card.

The GoPro and Contour cameras suck as bad as a cell phone at night, so I only use them for daytime rides. A friend of mine calls them "8-5 cameras".

I had a blast! If you have an event of your own, do let us see some video.

No such event here. I'm going out today to pick up lights I can use on my bike for next year. Flying Merkel will be the first kid on his block with a Christmas bike.
