It has plenty of chainstay clearance. 7/8" on drive side, and 1 1/8" on left side. I could have just used the center 32 ring it came with, but opted to buy a single speed ring with straight teeth instead. If I was doing it over, I'd look harder for a SS crank in this lower price range. (Couldn't seem to find, but should be available)
Chain line is an issue on these bikes. From the factory it is 7mm off! If you look close, you can see I installed two 3mm (6mm total) spacers behind my chainring, and now it's only 4.5 off. Probably not necessary, especially if you use a chain designed for derailleur bikes, but I'm picky.

Prices on that crank are very reasonable, yet I find myself doubting the fit. Do you have any video of your bike in action? Sorry, not calling you a liar, just don't want to waste my time trying it out and have it not fit without "alterations!" I HATE alterations!

I'm not sure what part you think won't fit. From my post #27:
It has plenty of chainstay clearance. 7/8" on drive side, and 1 1/8" on left side.
This crank is never going to hit anywhere, anytime. I altered nothing, just bolted them on.
I'm also not selling them or making them out to be anything more than they are: A cheap alternative to the boat anchors the bike came with. Like I said, if I had to do it over, I'd go for a SS specific crank, even if it cost a little more.

I will now take the leap and buy a single speed or BMX crank. Thanks dude, apologies if I made you feel any type of way.

walgoose as tractor. In this pic the rear tire is on a bump, the whole rig went down the road with 12-inches of clearance between the back of the trough and the road, for the mile I had to transport it. I posted this in utility also but this a good place for non serious beer cooler hauls on non serious bikes.
Lots of fun though.

What's the availability of tires for these things? These bikes look stupidly hilarious, and I'm giving serious thought to getting one.

Tires can be found on line and I've also seen them on flea bay. BTW, if the bike looks stupidly hilarious why are you giving serious thought to getting one? do you work for Ringling Bros or something?

Feels like it sometimes. However, when I say "stupidly hilarious", I mean it in a good way...they look like fun (once the issues are fixed), and I could use some fun in my life.

nicely done ilikebikes, no problems with cable clearance over the tire? One pic looks good and the other makes it look like the cable is on the tire but it might just be perspective.
It will be interesting to hear how the rim holds up.

Thanks, and yes, there was a problem with the cable clearing the tire, didn't notice it till I rode the bike around the block yesterday. I got home and quickly solved the problem by replacing the brake mounted cable hanger with a stem mounted cable hanger, then I moved the lower cable hanger up about a few inches, that gave me about an inch clearance between the brake cable and the tire.

I have been wanting a FTB for a while. This past spring I bought this Sun Spider on CL. Some old guy bought it on a whim and didnt like it. I owned it for a month or so. Surprisingly it rode nice and was easy to steer. It also had a 2 speed rear hub. The newer version has lugs on the fork for installing a disc brake. Like I said I sold it and got what I paid for it. Still looking. Its just not the one im looking for.

Nice! I just ordered a new rear wheel for mine. The wheel was wobbly from the day it arrived and the hub went to hell for no apparent reason.

Bicycle Repair Man !!!
I was checking Walmart's website and did not see that they were selling replacement tyres or tubes... consider that the Mongoose costs less than the tyres and tubes on my Pugsley.
My Pugsley crawls through snow fairly well... this could be a difference in rubber compounds and tread and having a slightly lower gearing that lets you keep the spin up. After it gets 6 inches deep the going is going to be tough and this might be a place where you want skinnier tyres to cut down to where you can get some better traction on the base.

i saw tubes advertised for it somewhere. maybe an ebay listing.
they gave us walmart gift cards at work this week. I think I'm gonna use it to knock some off one of these, or a genesis 32.

Hey sixty, Ive been thinking...just a thought mind you, of getting a geared fat tire bike. Reason being is just about the only thing I don't like about the Beast is the fact its a single speed. So I figured a geared would be the better way to go. So I don't know when I'm getting one, what name brand, or even if it will come to be, but I am kickin' it around in my head. All I know for sure is at the moment price means EVERY THING! (and that I'm diggin' the MOOTS!)

I have a origin8 cargo unit and seat on the walgoose now, still love to cruise it but I have also been thinking about going for the real deal after the first of the year and buying a pugs. Once you try fat you can't go back.
