ilikebikes 09-22-13 08:45 PM

White vinyl dye, available at many auto parts stores.

ilikebikes 09-23-13 09:42 AM

Im looking for leather...long shot I know. I guess I'll just have to go with vinyl.

I guess now would be a good time to ask anyone if they have a VERY NICE (preferably white) vinyl springer seat they'd consider trading away. Anyone?
Wordbiker, would that dye work on those rubbery seats? like the one on the bike pictured above?

Tandy has white leather coloring. They also have white leather.

And here is some white leather dye on eBay.

ilikebikes 09-24-13 02:57 PM

Settled for a black leather saddle for now, but its a really nice black leather saddle!

ilikebikes 09-26-13 07:04 PM

Yeah I looked at that one, its really nice but I was looking for a leather saddle. BTW the "halo" thing is called a crash bar. :)

It will work on any vinyl and many plastics. A test swab would prove it. I dyed this black tool pallet first white, then red.

The nice part is it's dye, not paint so it won't rub or flake off.

As she sits today.

It's also known perhaps to some (or maybe just ME) as the "bite your buns" seat ;)

As for the bike, it definitely Works, man. :thumb:

wowee look at that sadde. I've never heard of lepper saddles before, but how comfortable is it? Do tell.
Does it absorb the sidewalks pretty well?

Every saddle I try causes me to walk funny for the next couple days, if you know what I mean.

ilikebikes 07-24-14 09:03 PM

Its like driving an old caddy with tires made of clouds! More comfortable than any Brooks Ive ever owned, and I Love Brooks!

first hand account, right here. I know what saddle Im getting next.

peter white cycles says "oh they break, so we don't stock them anymore, we only have Brooks saddles". Sounds kind of fishy to me.

Honestly, what breaks? the seat frame? My god you could just MIG weld it back together. looks like 1/8th inch steel to me.

look at the front spring on that. Doesnt look cheap to me. Do you think a 190 lb person would be heavy enough?

ilikebikes 07-25-14 11:20 PM

I have never heard of Leppers breaking. Im 212lbs and the Leppers fine, and I altered the frame on the saddle to get the seat post clamp to fit. The guy that had it before me drilled another hole in the frame too! I must have ridden the Lepper 150 miles easy with no problems.

NormanF 07-27-14 08:50 PM

Lepper is the only other European high quality leather saddle maker apart from Brooks:

Lepper BV - leren fietszadels, voor comfort en tegen zadelpijn

Its outstanding for durability and comfort. Well known in its native Netherlands, not widely distributed stateside as Brooks.
