I have a friend who just bought a hardrock sport and is looking to get a new wheelset that: 1)can handle disc brakes, 2)Is double walled or atleast pretty strong(capable of around 4-5 foot drops to flat maybe less) and 3) is relatively inexpensive around 200 for front and rear a little more or less is good, any suggestions

P.S: I suggested to him to just get the sport disc and save the money but he is EXTREMELY impatient and wanted the bike today, not tomorrow and he wanted to pick out his own stuff.

shimno xt on 519 very nice and can use rim brakes in a pinch I built a pair last year and have not turned a spoke yet

Halo combat wheels? They are heavy, strong, and relatively cheap. Im probaby going for LaserDiscs.

Trying to remember, they are the WTB ones right. If so the sidewalls on them are like butter. They are super easy to dent and flatspot. My mate has some on his Ironhorse Sunday, first time DHing (then again it was a veryu rocky track) he had the biggest dent I have ever seen in a sidewall. Other riders who were with us said that it was not uncommon for WTB rims to dent and flat spot. Then again we like our tracks fast and rocky down here :p

Arent many rocks where I am. Sea otter didnt have any rocks at all on the downhill course either.

I ride on Mavic's DeeMax's. No comparison out there yet.... I got'em for $399 @ WheelWorld.com, but they've since sold out. I think JensonUSA has them too, but for about $499.

yeh i agree with combats i just got them and they are very strong. i did 8 stairs to flat the other day no buckles. but then i am quite light.

I know Ican't get them cheap. They are up there with Mavic 321d's...120cdn a rim.

I can get them cheap, but thats not retail. I would guess that they go for about 350. You can get them in 24" or 26" and 32, 36, or even 48 spokes.

I finally decided on DT Swiss Onyx FR wheels :D Cant wait for them to come!
