Sorry if this has been posted already.. just got an email for this... sounds pretty fun... (it's elimination 100 meter sprints in CT, organized by a "legitimate" cycling org.)

http://www.cbra.org/frames/2006_Sprints.html

I am so down. I'll see if I can rally up some support for this too... get the hartford scene to go down.

NYC folks, there is a train leaving from grand central station at 9:07am that gets in to bridgeport at 10:27am - I think you need a bike permit to take your ride on the train. The fare is $22-$29 r/t depending on whether or not it is peak hours.

Grand Central Bridgeport Travel Time Transfer Peak fare
8:32AM 9:58AM 86 THROUGH TRAIN Y
9:07AM 10:27AM 80 THROUGH TRAIN N
10:07AM 11:27AM 80 THROUGH TRAIN N

Sounds like fun... I hope I can make it but not sure at the moment.

After the events on Saturday in Northbrook, come down to Chicago for this race! The finish line is at the Velocity Tour Goldsprints! Come out! It's a benefit for Bobcat, a very injured messenger!

SUNDAY - A hundred miles, a single gear: Tour des Barrens
A century for fixed-gear and single-speed cyclists. If you've never had the pleasure of riding 100 miles without bothering to shift, here's your chance. The route (courtesy John Zenkus) is almost entirely flat, so you won't miss that derailleur. Bring two water bottles, spare tubes, helmet, pocket food, and cash. Ferry leaves at 8:00am; cost is a $39 (for RT fare + bike charge).

Sunday August 6 at 07:40 AM
@ Seastreak Ferry terminal: E. 34th St. and East River
Leaders:
Carol Wood, violetdubois@mindspring.com, 212-683-0070 /
Sal Cenatiempo, spcena@hotmail.com, 917-302-2327
Friends, Everyone is invited to join a flat century ride I'm co-leading for NYCC this Sunday for fixed gears and single speeds. The route begins on Sandy Hook, NJ (via ferry) and runs down into the Pine Barrens and back. There's not much thinking involved, so it's the perfect summer ride. The average pace on the flats (which is most of the route) is 19mph, with minimal breaks. Hammerheads are welcome to buzz ahead. I'm always slower than advertised. It's possible to shorten the ride, though I haven't scouted those roads. If interested or any questions, give me a call. The ferry ride is a pricey $39, but it's still cheaper than the TA century, with fewer stoplights, and you can buy beer on the return trip.

NYC ride Sunday August 20th
http://www.times-up.org/calendar/detail.php?calendarid=987

Where?
Staten Island, but meet at Staten Island Ferry terminal in Manhattan
(1 Whitehall Street at South Street in Lower Manhattan)

When?
Meet time: 10:45am’ish
Ride/ferry leaves on time @11:00am

In addition to info posted on the times-up site, I’ll add this (as the person leading the ride):

From the ferry to the beach is about ~15 miles through mostly bike friendly roads, most of it is flat,
however there are some unavoidable hills thrown in the mix, but you guys are healthy...I think, nothing
too crazy! The return trip back to the ferry is about 5 miles (less scenic route)

Unless you’re a macho guy, I suggest you have at least one bottle of water with you, there are a few
stores along the way, so we’ll make stops if need be, but a man prepared, is a man less dead...I don’t
know what that means exactly, but I like the sound of it ;)

It’s also probably best to bring your own lunch to be enjoyed at the beach, but if you travel lite there’s
a pizza shop and a deli or two a few blocks away from the beach site.

The time scheduled for this ride says 11:00, but I suggest you aim to get to the Staten Island Ferry
station at 10:45 since the ferry we’re catching leaves at exactly 11:00am.

Peace

The 2nd annual, Rochester Labor Day Food Drive Alleycat bike race

This is an alleycat, where at the start, I'll give you a list of items that you will need to purchase from various grocery stores around town. You can only purchase one item at each store and receipts will be needed. At the end, the first rider back with all the items (and receipts) is the winner. All the food gathered will then be donated to Channel-1 food bank the next day.

I have a bunch of sponsors donating prizes. I beleive I have a list of them on our message board.
http://tribes.tribe.net/alleycat/thread/3485c400-092b-4dc8-9e46-68e7447ef82a (copy and paste complete link if it's not clickable)

Riders just need to show up at central park, with a bike, a bag and some money (about $20 to purchase items) at 9:00am. Please let as many people know about this as I would love to give a huge amount of food to donate to Channel-1 this year.

More info can be found at http://tribes.tribe.net/alleycat

Another thread got me thinking. Is there any interest at all in an Alleycat in the Ft Lauderdale/Miami area? I'm new around here(not new to South Florida but new to Fixed Gear and this Forum) so maybe there has been some alleycats in the area? I have a little experience putting bike races together and would be up for putting up prizes and getting sponsers, and putting a fun course together. I'd put this together if I got more than a couple responses(or even a couple) or would be happy helping out someone else if they want to get it going. I'd like to see a Ft Lauderdale To Miami run or the other way around. Make a bunch of stops to keep it from being just a north/south run. Any tips on getting some interest if there is none here is appreciatted also. I got time and enthusiasm to put something like this together. Also a Miami only event would be cool also, being from Ft Lauderdale I have my slightly slanted vision, but understand where the folks may be.

(Accidentally) timed to coincide with the PedalPlay bike weekend (http://velovan.blogspot.com/) so theres going to crazy amounts of bike-related activities going on over the 3 days.

Prizes (frameset!!!) for first across the line as well as a bunch of other categories, and the course is set up to be friendly to out-of-towners as well as locals.
