hi, i am hosting weekly races in brooklyn, ny at prospect park meeting at 10:00 at the grand army plaza entrance. bring a few bucks to throw into the post for a cash prize. this is for fixed gear and single speeds, but all are welcome to come and check things out and see what is going on. it is going to be a weekly event.
this week, may 24, will be the first time so it might be a little wierd but i hope it will be fun. perhaps there will eventually be sprint and skid contests depending on how things are going.
thanks!
10 am? pm? every tuesday? street racing, or laps? dude, a little more info, please.
i'm interested, since tuesdays are somewhat free for me, but give me a little more to go on.

sorry about that. it is every THURSDAY at 10:00pm. right now, it will be just one or two laps, but depending on how many people show up, i would eventually like to have sprints and skids.
sorry about all that confusion.
This from the friendly DC DemonCats...
We have just been informed that we are to throw the D.C. Mayhem Alleycat!!! The race will be held on Sunday, May 29th, 2005.
The name of this year's version is called the "Holy Mayhem!!!" and will consist of 20 checkpoints scattered throughout D.C. Each checkpoint will be worth 100 points and points will be awarded to finishing order (i.e.: 1st place-100 pts, 2nd place-99 pts, 3rd place-98 pts, and so on down the line).
Race fee is $10.00. Start time is 2:00 p.m. at Dupont Circle. Registration begins at 1:00 p.m.
Not sure what the prize list will consist of. It may come down to our secondary motto: "Racing for Victory and Free Beer!!!".
There will be a keg of Yuengling at the very least! I know the Left Coast is going to ***** because it is the same weekend as the NACCC, but the fact is that I don't know of anyone going to the NACCC. At this point in time, if you don't have your plane tickets to PDX, most likely you're not going. No disrepect toward the organizing committee of the NACCC is intended. Just that if you are not racing there, you might as well be racing here!
Not sure yet what is going on in B.more or RVA.
Also as a reminder to everyone, next Saturday is the "SCRABBLE" Alleycat is in RVA next weekend on Saturday, May 21st. It should be a BLAST!!!
where is everyone? we are at the circle, and no one is here!

Here are results of Mayhem weekend, condensed from the Demoncats Race Reports (available at www.demoncats.com thanks to John's hard work)

Mayhem Weekend 2005
- Bega’s Baltimore Bike Jam Courier Road Race
-The Demon Cats present “Holy Mayhem!!!” Alleycat
-AZ’s UDCECNAWFGCC (the unofficial district of columbia east coast north american
world fixed gear courier competition)
Well, another Mayhem Weekend has come and gone and what a GREAT WEEKEND it was!!! Though it may have not a three city omnium, there certainly wasn’t a lack of racing. It started Saturday morning in B.more with “Bega’s Baltimore Bike Jam Courier Road Race”. That was followed in the late afternoon with the “Holy Mayhem!!!” put together by yours truly. And finally ended about an hour ago with a barbecue in Rock Creek Park, the perfect ending to AZ’s UDCECNAWFGCC (the unofficial district of columbia east coast north american world fixed gear courier competition). Let me tell you a story about all three!!!
Part 1: “Bega’s Baltimore Bike Jam Courier Road Race”.
Bruce Beran won with 36 six laps, followed by Bryan, who raced on a fixed gear, then Tim from B.more, Julie, myself and AZ. Bruce and Julie won bags from Timbuk2 and best of all, everyone won more cash on top of the earlier mentioned $20.00. AZ won $20.00 more for DFL, I won $23.00 for next to DFL. Julie and Bruce won like $60.00 more each!!! I mean, the six of us won more money in that race that most of the serious road racers in the peloton that day!!! That’s the beauty of racing courier-style!!!
Part Two: The Demon Cats present “Holy Mayhem!!!” Alleycat
Starting with DFL. And the DFL prize (the aforementioned tiny DFL t-shirt) went to (drumroll, please):
MARIA from Copenhagen!!!
Best Out-of-Town (and this is where I must correct my drunken mistake) went to Breeze from Philly. He received the prize of a DCBCA jersey! But in reality Best Out-of Town went to none other than a person I have grown to know and respect through racing his races in Philly (drumroll, please):
Stewy from Philadelphia!!! He also finished Fifth Place overall!!!
Third Place Female and top out-of town female (drumroll, please) was none other that my dear friend:
Emily from Baltimore!!!
Third Place Male and this is incredible in one way and not surprising in another (drumroll please):
Bruce Beran!!!
Second Place Female and my pride and joy, also racing her first alleycat:
Kimberlee!!!
Second Place Male and Top Fixed Gear Racer (and the winner of our “it’s a mad mad mad mad W.orld!!! alleycat). Drumroll, please:
Bryn Beck from D.C.!!!
First Place Female and another great race from someone I didn’t know before our first race and now am proud to have made her acquaintance (drumroll, please):
JULIE E. from D.C.
And finally, the Top Male and Grand Champion of the 2005 Mayhem- Holy Mayhem Edition (drumroll with horn section included):
DAN GORDON!!! From Washington, D.C.!!!
Part Three: AZ’s UDCECNAWFGCC (the unofficial district of columbia east coast north american world fixed gear courier competition)
Grand Funk Master AZ, gave me the results which were:
Stewy, from Philly!!! Bryn, that name just keeps popping up! Perennial DFL Spencer from DC and Meredith!!!
So the final results for the the unofficial district of columbia east coast north american world fixed gear courier competition are:
Backwards Circles: Ali, Bryn and Corey
Trackstands: Bryn, Corey and Ali
Alleycat: Corey, Mo and Bryn
Skids: Stewy, Bryn and Spencer
The overall winner of the 2005 unofficial district of columbia east coast north american world fixed gear courier competition:
BRYN BECK!!!

HUGE USED BIKE SALE :
Reply to: thehub@thehubbikecoop.org
Date: 2005-05-30, 7:10PM CDT
The Hub Bike Co-op is having a Used Bike Extravaganza. Have some spare bikes?? Bring them to sell, and receive the full price of the sold bike in store credit. Need a bike? Come and check out the selection on Saturday June 18th (10-6pm) and Sunday June 19th (noon-6pm). We'll have both low priced bikes and higher end kinds o' stuff, so stop by to check it out. All bikes for sale must be brought in and priced by the seller (we will help you) on Friday June 17th by 8pm. They must be in RIDEABLE condition. We'll have mechanics around to help out and do any repairs to get the bikes out the door that weekend. If a bike does not sell, the seller can opt to donate their bike to a local community organization. We will take care of all the donation details (do any necessary repairs and drop them off). See our website for details, www.thehubbikecoop.org, or call us at 612-729-0437.
We are located just south of the intersection of Minnehaha and Lake Street in South Minneapolis. The address is 3026 Minnehaha Avenue. The Hub is a worker-owned, cooperatively run full service shop. We promote bicycles as an alternative to vehicle transport, and hope to provide an array of good bikes at all price ranges so that everyone can get out and ride!!
this is in or around 3026 Minnehaha Ave S
Just saw that on the Minneapolis Craigslist...

yeh i wondered who is riding in the rumble. i am prepared to get lost as ****, that is unles i jump on someones wheel, who actually knows where they are headed! yeeehaa
From the SurlyBlog :
If you're in the Minneapolis area, put this on your calendar:
Dead Brewery Tour 2005
Saturday, June 11th. Slow 20-ish mile group swerve through Mpls/St.Paul past the old breweries that once pumped out alot of beer and made Minnesota a pre-prohibition brewing powerhouse. Cruisers/hoopties/one-speeds/whatever are encouraged. Racers and heart rate monitors need not apply.
Show up at Molly Quinn's public house on Lake St. and 33rd Ave South Mpls at 11am for pre-noon beers and breakfast. The ride is leaving at 12 noon for St.Paul and will end late afternoon at the undead Town Hall brewpub in Mpls for beer and food.
Of course, pit stops will be frequent and random. Wear your drinking shoes. For more information, don't e-mail us, just show up and ride. Seize you there.
I have the feeling that there are going to be a lot of drunken bike wrecks this weekend...
Turd did you go? I was there everybody like it. fastest time was 51 mins. first female came in 3rd PLACE overall!!!

NYC | Saturday June 25 | HUNDRED WHEELS OF DEATH
12noon - 8p @ Browne & Imlay on the waterfront in Red Hook, Brooklyn
On the weekend before the final world championship race, bicycle gangs from all across america will converge on neutral turf in the neighborhood of Red Hook Brooklyn. There, in front of the cranes and shipping yards, on one of the last true pieces of nyc waterfront, they will begin to trash their homemade frankenstein bikes in a free day of bike game blitz. There will be madness, blood and insane bikes for everyone to ride, and events for the stronger and crazier of you to join. Events that will include; flaming barenuckle tallbike jousting of death, the most hellish allmighty footdown, (drunk guy favorite) the bike toss, and MANY MORE!
This totally free event with free beer provided by the Brooklyn Brewery is being organized by a union of the oldest and craziest bicycle gangs America has yet produced. Including: Black Label Bike Club, Chunk 666, The Cutthroats, and who ever else hears about it and gets their ass down to New York. Organize your own gang and bring us a challenge!

CMWC Alleycat Results?
Does anyone know if results beyond the top 3 are availabe from the Monster Track part of the Triple Threat Alleycat? Just curious to see how many were on track bikes and where I was within the track category.. I missed the official awards at Kissena on Monday. Thanks
i don't know about the further results, but even the top results are in question. the video tapes taken at at least two (and maybe three) of the checkpoints show that felipe, the announced winner, did not show up.
at the trackstar checkpoint, one was required to go into the shop, step over messenger bags lying on the floor, approach the counter, take a shot, find a condom on the floor, and go talk to brad to get a signature (they wanted to simulate a typical trackstar experience). i have seen the full videotape taken by the trackstar guys showing the whole inside of the shop, and felipe is not to be seen entering the store.
felipe's side of the story is that he came to the shop and someone outside (there was a group of people hanging out outside messsing with the alleycatters) signed his manifest. anyone who has done an alleycat will know that this could have happened. from what i understand, his manifest did indeed have a mark in the right spot, just not the mark trackstar was using. i don't know what to believe.
the checkpoint volunteer at another checkpoint (also videotaped) told me that he never saw felipe. he also claims that he told one of the organizers about it right after the race and was blown off.
the third disputed checkpoint i have no info on.
i reserve judgment on all of this --i'm just passing along the information.
well im just glad that we didnt have stuff like that at the mainrace (lots of other problems).. but it was still the strongest riders that got the credit..
that is my goal for the cmwc - to make it clear who won, and we are slowly getting there.
i think kevin chad and mark did a great job. now we need to tell all what it is they are doing.. its not as straight forward as one could assume..
we have another chance downunder.. :)
