this one's for SF - looks like it's gonna be awesome!

First Rule BMX and Cyclecide Bike Rodeo Present:
HELL ON WHEELS
Sunday Oct. 30, 2005

@ Bike Kitchen, 19th St. & Florida in the Mission, SF
# 10am ramps open
# DJs & bands start at noon
# zombie ride at dark
$5 in zombie costume, $8 no costume, $10 to compete
Kids under 12 free (but $10 to compete)

...hen, if that's not enough, when the sun goes down and the makeup artists have zombie-fied everyone, it's time for a ZOMBIE RIDE around the desolate back-streets of shady San Francisco -- the nether regions of the fair city, where killers kill, power plants pollute, tweakers eat brains, and the ghost of pirates past curse entire neighborhoods with violence, destruction, and new biotech buildings. (It'll be just like the Thriller video, but with bicycles...) The ZOMBIE RIDE ends up at an undisclosed location near the City's sewage treatment plant, where Mark Perez and crew will be offering $3 admission to bike-zombies on the final night of his own Halloween show with the infamous Life-Sized Game of Mousetrap.

Here's the official information for New Brunswick (aka the Hubcity) NJ's "Queen of the Streets" alleycat.
When: Friday November 4th. Registration: 3.30. Race: 4.00
Where: New Brunswick NJ. College Ave Campus (CAC) of Rutgers University. The top of the CAC parking deck.
http://gobble.rutgers.edu/newpats/cacmap.htm
On this map, the parking deck is near the Northwest corner of campus, behind Brower Commons and adjacent to Financial Aid.
Cost: $5. All overage after prizes and food will go to the Douglas Women's Center.
All questions can be directed to: llavoicetobeheardll@yahoo.com
Directions: Parking deck is 10 mins off Exit 9 of the NJ Turnpike. Also there is a very frequent NJ Transit train (its the Northeast Corridor line) where the parking deck is a 5 minute ride. The ride is a relaxing 55 min ride/nap.

Lastly, this race is meant to promote female cycling in/around New Brunswick. However, everyone is allowed to race.

why would a race on a friday start at 4:00 ? this makes no sense. I used to live in New Brunswick and now live in Philly but who can be there that early?

Friday lunchbreak series NYC. 12:45 in Bryant Park by the Fountain. We know you're stuck in your office all day and that new BF posts just don't happen frequently enough to fill the gaps between when you have to pretend to do work to keep your boss happy. So on your lunch hour, do a short ride/ 3-4 checkpoint alleycat. It'll make your day.

For those of us on the east coast not going to this (http://bffg.absenter.org/) there is this (http://www.bikereg.com/races/register.asp?EventID=2673) going on. Should prove to be a much better time than some of you might have had at the R1 Alleycat in Providence.

This race already happened so this point is probably moot. But traffic in New Brunswick on Friday afternoons is epic. Total standstill. I would honestly compare to NYC rush hour, just without the scale of coverage. Saturday afternoons on the other hand... very, very quiet.

I hope some of you made it (I didn't)... if not this one, then hopefully future ones

NJ turkey trot. here is some info from the race organizer:

The big "TS" is the New Brunswick Train station, not a checkpoint, but might be helpful to know.

The "S" is the start of the race, the "Grease Trucks"
1 is the pedestrian bridge by the loree building on george street
2 is the fountain at livingston and george street
3 is the gazebo in buccluech park
4 is under route 18 in johnson park
5 is the intersection of river road and route 27
The finish of the race will be disclosed to all racers during the race... sorry. If anyone has anymore questions feel free to give my cell phone a shout. This is a link to an interactive map of rutgers also, in case anyone wants to do some more digging. http://maps.rutgers.edu/maps/default.aspx?campus=5

I might be able to make this, depending on what happens at work this week. It doesn't look like a messenger-only race. Anyone from Boston want to join me? Zipcar looks like the way to go. Trains and buses don't work here.

Don't work where? If you mean Boston, then well I don't know. But if you mean New Brunswick, then there are trains that go there a few times every hour (at least in the middle of a weekday). My idea for public/cheap transportation from Boston: Chinatown bus from Beantown to NYC, ride bike from downtown to Penn Station (7th ave, 33rd st), NJ Transit Northeast Corridor to Trenton (get off at New Brunswick of course). Then again, between multiple people, zipcar may be cheaper.

I'm not the organizer, but I know that the organizer is not a messenger himself. So definitely open to non-messengers. In fact, there are no (current) messengers in NB. Should be a fun time though, I recommend you guys attend. Tell em Ellis sent you....

Thanks for the tips. It's not practical to take a train or bus from Boston (for me, at least). It's not a question of affordability. The train is crazy slow, and the bus isn't direct.

Hopefully I can get a couple of people to tag along.

It's SS mountain biking, but it's still SS

from the HappyFunRacing team...

Happy Fun Racing is in the Early planning stages for the 2006 North Cackalacki Caddywompas Single Speed Rally. The tentative date is for Saturday, March 11Th, location is to be announced. For those of you who were too busy playing with dolls last year to participate, here's your chance. We love and miss you! Four months should be enough notice. This is not a race! The only requirements are to use a singlespeed (dah), and to have fun! Allthough it is not a race, there will be a few SPECIAL events that will help determine who will be crowned the Singlespeed King and Queen. Last year we had a trials event. I know that it is a shocker, but there will be BEER involved as well! In fact, that is the only entry fee. To enter you must bring a six pack of some good beer...you can even drink six of someone Else's! "Such a deal!" HFR will, as always supply extra, just in case things get out of hand. (as they often do at HFR events) Clothes are optional, but lack of them during the rally will certainly move you up a notch or two towards royalty...hint, hint! We will likely do some T-shirts again this year and will only charge about what they cost us. We'll have people let us know if they are interested in them when the date gets a little closer.
Get yourself a single speed, if you don't allready have one and start preparing your liver. Last year was our first year and we had around 25 participants. Everyone seemed to have a great time so it should be even bigger this year. Remember this a non-NORBA event......the only guarantees are fun and drunkenness!

Cackalacki = Carolina for those yanks who don't yet know. Although location is still TBD, the event will be somewhere in NC's research triangle (raleigh, durham, or chapel hill)
