THIS FRIDAY EVENING (2-3-06) we will be having the ride for February called
"SEX, SEXUALITY and LOVE" (aka, "the RideArc Sex Ride"). 9 PM @ the Mobile Gas Station, La Brea + Sunset

In the mood for some lovin'? Ride with us as we explore the aspects of sex, sexuality and love in architecture and LA's built landscape...
(This route will be really fun!! We're really excited to be having this ride!!)

Weather: The evenings have been a bit crisp and cooler recently, so a light jacket/hoodie or equivalent may be suggested. Light gloves can also help keep your hands warm. Night temperatures are expected around 60° F.

THE MEETING PLACE FOR THIS RIDE IS AT SUNSET + LA BREA at the Mobile Gas Station at 9PM
Map: http://tinyurl.com/b69q7

Getting to the meeting place:
- No car? Take the Red Line to Hollywood + Highland, take Hollywood Blvd west, left on La Brea - Mobile Station is south of Sunset.
- Driving/carpooling there? Street parking is available on local streets and there are some meters (free!) along Sunset.

Hey, wouldn't it be great to see a gas station packed full of people on bikes rather than those gas-guzzling cars?

The route is approximately 16 miles, has a few light hills and is round-trip (we end where we start).

There are no requirements of ability or skill to ride with everyone - just bring your own bike! Any bike! Road, MTB, Fixed Gear, BMX, Cruisers, Choppers, LowRiders...

It is open to anyone and everyone! Bring your friends, family, significant others!
A helmet is a good idea if you've got one, but it is optional and we ride safely. If you've got a light, bring it lit up - the more the better.
No rider left behind!

For more information, you can e-mail us at: ridearc@gmail.com

I think passports are the way to go. New border security initiatives all 'round have screwed things up large. I just found out myself.... I wonder if the site has been updated.

Just be certain of your plans when talking to border patrol, i.e. this is where we are going, here is where we are staying and this is when we will be leaving.

Did you ride this last year? If so, what did you do for tires?

TRaffic Jammer
02-01-06, 12:34 PM
From Tom the Organizer:

Due to the unfortunate effects of Global Warming, the latest forecast calls for 4 degrees Celcius (above freezing) over three days prior to the scheduled date, and 70% chance of rain.

* The Old Port has decided to POSTPONE the Ice cup and re-schedule it for next SATURDAY Feb 11th.

Sorry about the logistical nightmare, but we rather have the Cup a week later rather then not have it at all.

I am not certain about the IDs. If you want, I will ask around for you, but you will find reliable information on travel from US to Canada more readily available in your city. I suspect a drivers license or similar is enough for US citizens, but you cant go wrong with the passport.

What city are you coming from? How many are you? (how much couchspace you need?) Let me know if you are still coming, given the date change, and I will get back to you with a number to call when you get in.

thanks for your understanding,

Tom
Montreal Ice Cup crew.

No I didn't ride it last year, I was offered screwed tires just last night to go to it this year but I simply won't be there to race. Next year however I'm in....

The screw tires mentioned on the site seem to be the way to go, but there is a rubber class as well where a certain amount of studs are allowed. The screw tires just keep getting better every year as participants figure out new ways of creating the most evil lookin set of tires EVER. lol Hmmmm fixing a skate blade on the front somehow, I wonder.......

hey all,

Philly is hosting another Rocky Balboa race. This year will be the fourth one. Rocky Balboa race started back in 1999 by Dan Murphy. The premise of this race is to have two people on a team. One team mate will be the Sprinter. The Sprinter will have to run up the art museums stairs (just like rocky) and get the packages for each checkpoint. The sprinter then runs back down the steps to their bike. Then sprints to Love Park.

Where their teammate (i.e. Runner) will be waiting. They do a hand off. The runner will go do the task that is in the envelope. The sprinter will go back to the steps and do the same thing. Last year we had about 8 checkpoints spread out of Philadelphia. The ranged from the top of the Ben Franklin Bridge to Rocky Statue at the Stadiums to making a shot at the bike polo court at Taney Park.

Their were only 25 teams last year. I am hoping to have more. Here is the info on where it will be and the sponsors (so far)

June 24, 2006
2pm at the steps at the Art Museum (22nd and the Ben Franklin Parkway "roughly").
$20 for teams. (which will include after party BBQ at the Finish Line)
all proceeds will go to PBMA to help with the North American Cycle Courier Championships (naccc.phillybma.org)

sponsors as of 2/7/06
