Ah yes, it's all about the food in your stomach.
THIS FRIDAY EVENING (3-3-06) we will be having the ride for March called
"HUMAN FEED"
(aka, "I grow it myself")
(aka, "Meet your Meat")
(aka, "I can't believe I ate the whole thing")
(aka, "Wow that smells good")
(aka, "Wow that smells like....")
(aka, "You are what you eat")
(aka, "Lost in the process of processed foods")
9 PM @ the SCI-Arc parking lot, corner of Traction & Merrick in the "Artists District"
There are roughly 18 Million People in the greater Los Angeles area... and they all need to eat. Where does all that food come from? Ride with us as we explore the sites, sounds, and smells of one of the largest Food Provision industries in the United States and it's woven fabric into life in Los Angeles.
Weather: Yes, it's true! As we are writing this, the sky IS falling! Who knew? But doing a little research with our comrades at National Weather Service and the UCLA Department of Atmospheric and Ocean Sciences, Friday evening should be partly cloudy with little-to-no rain. Of course, it will be "cold." We're not talking North Dakota-I-can't-find-my-house-in-the-snow kinda cold, but it will be in the mid 50's. Biking will warm you up! Gloves recommended.
THE MEETING PLACE FOR THIS RIDE IS AT THE SCI-ARC PARKING LOT, 9 PM
Map: http://tinyurl.com/jv5pg
Getting to the meeting place:
- No car? Take the Red or Gold Line to Union Station -> Alameda South -> Left on Traction (just after 2nd Street) -> end of the street.
- Driving/carpooling there? PLENTY of parking available at the school that never sleeps.
The route is smooth and will take us to many unique and unexplored neighborhoods. Some portions will be dark, so if you've got a light!
There are no requirements of ability or skill to ride with everyone - just bring your own bike! Any bike! Road, MTB, Fixed Gear, BMX, Cruisers, Choppers, LowRiders...
It is open to anyone and everyone! Bring your friends, family, significant others!
A helmet is a good idea if you've got one, but it is optional and we ride safely. If you've got a light, bring it lit up - the more the better.
No rider left behind!

You know, I was thinking much the same today... Thats a fun race, and Columbus is a fun city to race in.

as i understand it, there were problems getting someone to take charge of it. someone has stepped up to the plate, but i haven't gotten any updated information about a date or any such. i'll keep you posted.

Hey everyone, wanted to give you guys a heads up on this early so everyone can make it. The jersey kids are having an alleycat. Most of our races don't get much out of town action, but I would love to see the philly and new york guys come in for this. Think of it as a totally level playing field since chances are high none of you have ridden here before.

I saw a flyer for a pirate themed (Pirates of the Embarcadero) ride in San Francisco on March 10th or 11th. Does anyone have more specifics on this ride or the url of the group who is organizing it?

Can't wait to hear about the scandal surrounding this race! Imagine racing from Manhattan to the hamptons, and when you got there you had to pick a number between 1 and 100 to decide who the winner is! This race was that lame! The fastest riders (who happened to win on fix) were not the winners of the race, all the bike forums nerds won because they had the best poker hand based on drawing cards at each checkpoint. how lame is that?? very. I'm sure the messenger community will further themselves from the bf community even more after a dumb stunt like this one. truly one to go down in the history books!! congrats nerds!
http://www.dynagroove.com/users/fabian/bikes/NAHBS_rally.jpg
There were only two people who won anything because of poker hand, the top finishers won quite a bit of stuff. ****, I even begged a frame out of waterford for the first place finisher. Just because the custom build went to best poker hand doesn't mean that no one else won anything, quite the opposite. Whatever, lots of people got lots of stuff (there were 8 shimano pedal/shoe combos among other things) but I guess some people will always ***** and moan...

Wow, that's a fundamentally ******ed message. Nice work.
For your next feat maybe you can show how that race had **** all to do with messengers or nerds.
Keep holdin it down for the reals, dillweed.

hey, how did you place? not very well if you didn't receive any of the boatload of prizes.
regardless, 1st place got a frame. i don't think he is complaining, why are you?
please do not spew misinformation. 1st place was the winner of the race. the winning poker hand received a great prize, but i don't think anyone thought he actually won the race! you're an idiot for thinking that!

not unless the milwaukee messengers are openly inviting people to come to their race. thereby kind of defeating the need to formally invite people. ha

Gainesville, Florida.
that's an awesome flyer idea well done
When: April 29th, 5pm
Where: Chicago, Il
Why: to raise money for the Chicago Courier's Union!
What?!: Did you know there are buildings downtown that were bombed in the 70's by Puerto Rican independence groups? Did you know Emma Goldman is buried only a few miles from where you probably live? Did you know there are buildings in Humboldt Park that were stormed by the FBI because of suspected terrorist training? Do you know about the radical labor history of Chicago?
This alleycat will radicalize your ass way more than critical mass, all of the check-points will be sites of radical history in Chicago. Ending with a party. We'll have bands and food and beer.
The course is being drawn up, so some of the info is TBA, but mark your calendars!
Hey y'all,
I need help with making fliers for the above race. i cannot draw! i would love to see a great hand-drawn flier. maybe kids on bikes with molotov cocktails made out of 40oz's? i know i know, cheesy, but still sweet!
anybody interested? other ideas are welcome!

oh, and chuck_norris, that "a winner is you!" picture should really get used somewhere.

Crushing the Commonwealth
Things are still being hashed out here, not all of us in Stillers' land are thinking Super Bowl.
Crushing the Commonwealth or,
this is a long ride for someone with nothing to think about.
Last weekend in April, Philadelphia to Pittsburgh.
Route follows PA Bicycle Route S with connectors to Philly and Pgh.
Entry Fee-something you would want after finishing the ride
Start- Liberty Bell Friday April 28th
End-Point State Park
Distance-350 to 400 miles
Questions-randoneepa@gmail.com
Warning!!!!!
This is an unsupported event. You get lost, get tired, break your bike, YOU need to get yourself home. No sag wagon, no aid stations, no drop bags. Think alley cat, now think much much bigger.
More as we settle on things.
T-shirts and spoke cards for all finishers, maybe some home brew if I get the time to fire a batch up.
As of now we have no super enduro folks who may attempt this ride in one long push. All folks interested so far plan on sleeping for a spell, so this may be a bit more of a friendly contest than a full on hammer fest for the super fit.

What is at 500 San Marcos St.? There is an alleycat in Fort Worth the same day with a ****ton of prizes including a new KHS Flite.
edit: I just figured out what is at that address. Why is an alleycat starting at a Scooter Store?
