Build Micro Mini

Want to build my sons 1st BMX bike. "Needs" a micro mini (Short 4 year old). I recognize that he's gonna outgrow it in short order so I'd like to be able to canablize the bike later to put the parts on a mini and junior as he grows into them.
I'll spend the money early if I can make this make sense later.
What parts can I expect to be interchangable between the different bikes and what parts will I need to repurchase?
Recommendations? I'm thinking I want the shortest top tube available for him, then, for all the rest of the parts I'm looking for guidance on so I'm not short changing him now or down the road.
Can this make sense?

Ask at your local track. Surely you're not the first dad to want to do this. You may even find someone with the bike you're looking for, already built, and outgrown by a 5 year old.

Haven't seen any micros yet. Will be looking at one at a state race this weekend however.
Still don't know what I need to consider to be able to canabalize the micro for a mini and junior however.
Thinking that if I purchase the used one, may not be able to canabalize and therefor ends up costing me more over the long haul for a "lesser" bike.
I'll keep my eyes open however.

I'm at the other end of the spectrum (I race a 24" cruiser) but I don't see you being able to reuse too much, especially if you're using 18" wheels the first time around. I see used mini's at our track every once in a while for AU$200 or so. I can't imagine they would cost very much in the states.

I would start at the different manufacturers websites, and see what's interchangeable from micro to mini to junior. That may give you an idea of what parts you'll be able to reuse. I still suspect that it's better to buy micros and minis used, as they can't possibly see that much abuse, and are outgrown quickly. You'll take a loss when you sell the incomplete micro anyway. Cheers to you for starting him young though. :D
