I am just getting into the sport and was looking to get a trainer. I heard to make sure that I get a fluid trainer. I'm not sure what kind or what the good brands are. Any help would be greatly appreciated... Thanks

I use the Performance Fluid from Performance Bike Shop and I like it. My wife and I have them and we have had no problems with either. The reason why people are telling you to get the fluid trainer is because they are quiet.

I have a wind trainer and have no problems at all with it. If noise isn't an issue, save 50 bucks and get a wind trainer. (BTW mine is a Blackburn Trackstand wind trainer.)

Might I recommend rollers...I just had a go at mine last night. (Sportcrafters.com) Easier than I expected, and with a magnetic resistance unit I think you get all the benefits of both. Smooth fluid pedal strokes, still lower body, and the variable resistance to simulate riding. There is even a fork mount available so you can stand and hammer like a fixed bike trainer. Just a thought, excellent as it is.....

Check out Computrainer http://www.racermateinc.com/ it is a high end trainer that can keep you riding the whole winter by keeping it interesting. It can show you your pedal stroke and where you are putting the power, track heart rate, speed....and on and on. You can also program in real roads into it so you can ride your normal summer route and see how your doing. If your route goes up a hill, the computer tells the load generator on the back tire to increase the load. I have mine connected to a computer and the monitor show me a 3D image of the road I'm on. you can split the screen and see your pedal stroke.

I have a fluid trainer and I absolutely love it. Thought it had a small leak but I haven't noticed any fluid around it since I cleaned up the mat last time so it must have been some other spooge! :eek: God only knows what.
Have a CycleOps Fluid 2 that I got off of ebay for $220 shipped. Not too shabby of a price for a new one. The only thing I want now is something with a powermeter on it.
