Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Photos: DCC Ride 04/16/2005 Chicago

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
A ride of epic sorts, dodging through traffic in the thick of the downtown shopping masses, taking up lanes and terrorizing the pedestrians who'd cross against the walk sign anyway. To the lakefront path with breakaway packs and lost groups of riders here and there as traffic, cops and pedestrians got in the way. We still all caught up at the end of the ride. A good ride with good people and good times.
The crew at 2pm:

After the crazy breakaways and running though mass traffic and losing a rider or two to work and other things, we convened and I made people pose.

Anyone up for this coming Saturday? I know I will be down there with a guest...
i have a test on monday but screw it. education is overrated . . .
i'll throw in a maybe for next weekend, but a definitely for next-next weekend (the 30th).
as long as it involves, at some point, basking in the sun and drinking something. i can fit 4-5 six packs (bottles) in my bag. and i want to race someone. preferably stickerguy but anyone in general. we could do time trials down the bus route from randolph to cermak. yeah ... race ... please ...
Next-next weekend sounds good to me. I believe I'll be moving into my new place this weekend.
Val - the race sounds good. I think we should do a small trials within the DCC. Maybe we can have a pot - we each throw in 5 bucks and winner takes all.
Different events:
1) Trackstand contest
2) Skids
3) mini-alleycat

i'm foaming at the mouth in anticipation.
we could actually organize a real alleycat this summer, now that we're sorta official and semi-known (at least by marcus). that could be fun ...

ahhh... my sweet harley. i sure miss that guy.
Chris - Harley's a good guy. He regaled me with small tales of the CO crew. Gotta make it out there sometime.
And that Leader - interesting after the headset issues. But damn, that bike is light as all heck.

i can't believe how light it is either, especially for the size.
you and josh should seriously come out here. this summer or fall? track season ends in september i believe... the denver midnight classic would be a great bike event to catch as well. eric and i have three full size couches, and one 'love seat' if you're feeling disgusting.

I always feel disgusting - ask my doctor.
If I show up, will you have a samurai sword I can use?

i have a wooden one. does that count?
i'm getting a sword from a friend and was thinking of sheathing it on my bag. no one will mess with me then. including you [165].

I want to be one of the cool DCC people. Is it possible to be part of DCC, but never have lived in Chicago? I'm starting the Cambridge chapter! It will be called the DCCC (the Dirty Chicago (or Cambridge) Crew. DCC vs. DCCC in '06? What do you think? (I figure it will take that long to organize an event where everyone meets halfway between Cambridge and Chicago.)

i would be interested in riding this weekend...
unfortunately, i work until 5ish on saturdays, so after that i would be down or on sunday-
Yeah, great ride, even if we didn't do a whole lot of riding it was a blast just to hang with people.
I would be up for doing something later on saturday as well - I'm working until 4 but would be able to be up there by 5:30 or so, maybe 6 if I ride from 55th but I'll only do that if everyone is getting together later.
A DCC competition serious sounds excellent. I better work on my no-handed no-footed blindfolded trackstands.
Also, there should be foot-down. Can't forget that.
cue the bickering on date, time & place. i'll be over here taking a nap until it all
gets figured out.
first person who guesses which numbered post contains the first instance the date, time & place of the next dcc meeting appears will get either a hug or a pepsi (their choice). oh and yeah that last sentence was a bit complex but you get what i mean.
jeff
winner will be decided when/if it the next meeting happens.

Who is that a$$hole in the sleeveless shirt? Tell him to put some real clothes on for chrissake. I am absolutely down for a ride this weekend, but it would have to be an evening ride as I have to take some stuff to a gallery earlier on.
p.s. Josh and Naz: put some serious thought into traveling to CO. It'll be worth it, the midnight classic is f-in' rad! Oh, and chris and Eric have really pretty faces in person. ;)

no, that's al5's commuter. it's very back heavy ...
... which provided much entertainment when stickerguy and [165] tried to trackstand on it, i think ryan got the hang of it though.

you guys make me jealous. I don't have anyone to ride with anymore. I want to ride with people! This whole riding alone thing is starting to loose its novelty.
I'm really upset I didn't make the ride. Working on the weekend sucks; especially when everyone else is having fun!

the saddlebag was filled with small gnomes - when i get a flat they hop out and fix it whilst singing gnomishly

That's the UPS man. I'm convinced he's Santa.
'Cause the bastard doesn't show up and I haven't gotten anything.
these pictures are funnier now that i'm drinking (alone) at home because i'm lazy and it's windy/cold and i don't want to take the bus/train anywhere and i live too fu**in far south for anyone in their right mind to want to join me and i really like gumballs, but gumballs and beer don't really mix and ...
uh ... i guess that's it. i suppose i'll start texting soon.

heh heh...make the homemade kaluha.
It's a shame you're not in the WP area, otherwise I'd meet ya halfway (and Jeff would probably too) and we could drink the night away at the Handlebar. It's one of those long days.

that sort of comment is going to make me rethink moving again.
well off to brewing up some beverage. the kahlua is strictly a winter drink. although it's cold enough tonight ... naw can't mix drinks once you're going down the hoppy path. maybe our dcc time trial could be pre-drink and post-drink. that would be entertaining. at least for me. but i'm easily entertained.
v^(al) .
Gee, I don't know anyone who lives on the south side and likes to drink and ride... *cough cough*

My bum knee has kept me on bikeforum instead of on my bike since Easter! I would love to ride this Saturday but I am a gimp. Oh yeah, I am not even sure if us Chicagoland folk are allowed.
:)
Depends on what burb you are from :D

Born in Berwyn, Lived in LaGrange for the majority of my life, Recently back to Willow Springs after a four year drinking binge in Milwaukee at "school"
If this makes it any better, four years in Milwaukee were spent living downtown, a few minutes walk to the lake and in the heart of the cycling community up there!
hey ryan, sorry. you're so far south i often forget that you are down here.
and milwaukee ... i grew up there. i miss the pretty lake. it's not so scenic down here. although it smells the same.
Don't worry man. I was living in naperville and they let me join.
if there's any chicagoland 'burb that should be discriminated against
it is naperville.
