Tandem Cycling - baby seat for a tandem?

I bought a Topeak to find that it will not work for my tandem. The custom rear rack which the seat attaches to will not accomodate the larger spread of the rear dropouts on my Cannondale. Anyone have any luck with a baby seat on their tandem? if so what kind?

Two ideas.

1. With many racks, it's quite easy to spread the legs apart. I have done it countless times with Blackburn racks (and compatibles) as well as with Burley Piccolo's rack. I haven't seen the Topeak rack, though.

2. Install the left leg inside the dropout.

My choice would be a trailer. Easily detatched and you don't have the baby seat on the bike when you want to ride without the baby. I think generally the kid is more comfortable in a trailer also. Can be used with your single bikes too.

We've got a Rhode gear limo for our tandem and fitted it as Michel suggested. The biggest issue we had, was that because of the geometry of the frame The Blackburn EX-1 rack needed to be modified slightly, so that the seat didn't slope forwards too much. It still slopes slightly, but the adjustability of the seats backrest means that our son is comfortable.

Oh, I've also found no problems with balance etc that lead a lot of people to suggest trailers as the best way to travel with small children. We do use lowrider panniers at the front whaich may be of some help here.
