the Shimano site ain't working, so.......
I've just noticed that the axle bit that seems to be fixed to the right crank is steel.
What is the likelihood of this axle rusting?
Is the axle removable?
why is it titanium coloured? Has it been treated?

is the pipe axle thingy removable?
is it just as likely to rust as a square, tapered axle

if this steel bit rusts, Iassume my cranks will be knackered
I'm wondering because these cranks cost me more than most of my frames!!

The axle is not removable. As far as being rust prone, I'm not sure. Most likely it's some sort of plated carbon steel so yes, it could rust if the plating is compromised in some way.

What he ^^ said.
I would think if you are taking care of your bike, doing the routine maintenance, etc., then you won't have anything to worry about.
