Mountain Biking - How do u adjust disc pads when caliper bolt technique doesn't work?

I have a problem with my front rotor rubbing on the left pad (the one that moves). I've already tried the "loosen caliper bolts - squeeze brake - tighten bolts" technique and that has worked to an extent. But now the caliper doesn't move any furthur left than what it is (i.e. it is as far left as it will go) and the pad still rubs. How do you adjust the pads otherwise? Or is this a job that can only be done by a LBS?

Hydro or marchanical?

If hydro take the pads off, push the pistons back as far as possible and then re-attach. THEN do the whole grab the brake tighten the caliper down technique.

Secondly it would help if we knew what brand and model your brakes were and what you did with the instructions for them

Thanks, yeah they're hydro. i'll give it a shot, see how i go.
BTW i really dont care how people spell, i think it makes posts more interesting. you only have to think about it for a bit and and you'll work out what they mean.
