I sent my 1 X1 down the road a few months ago. I miss the Surly love that was once given to me. Looking to commute regularly in a month or so. Ive got my feelers out for a Surly commuter. Any leads? I was loking at the Cross Check, Steam Roller and the Karate Monkey. Any thoughts on the frames?
I want to set it up with drops and fix it for sure.
Thanks
I have a Cross-Check running fixed. Really enjoy the ride.

My new Surly Cross check is out back and reved up for the ride home..Got it last Friday...Nice , solid ride...Had a 70.000 mile Scott frame..Mechanic recommended replacing the frame with a Surly cross check..Very Solid ride...
Triple crank...no regrets.

I am in the same boat as you are. After much soul searching I have decided on the cross check for a single speed build. Dont think one could go wrong with a cross check

ThanksThe x-check for sure. It's got mounts for full fenders and a rack and is fixable. I looked at The Monkey but it was heavier and more MTB oriented as far as the geometry was concerned. The Steam roller is nice but no rack mounts. The Long Haul trucker would be another option.

The LHT has vertical dropouts. A big hassle.

Phil Wood hubs (135) on Mavic CXP33. Sugino 75 track crank on a 125mm Phil bottom bracket, FSA Orbit headset, Salsa stem, Nitto Randonneur drops, Schwalabe Marathon tires, Brooks saddle, Candy C pedals................and brakes.
The LHT has vertical dropouts. A big hassle. Thanks for the correction, I assumed it had horizontals like the x-check.
