Young Whipper snapper Johnny Schlitter does it again!!!!!!!

That fellow is amazing. TTied for 4th place in the BAF race (the one that banned lowracers).
Johnny Schlitter is one tough racer and he kicked but on real pro racers in that 130 mile across Florida race. Way to go Johnny Schlitter. You rock man.

It is refreshing to see someone like Johnny Schlitter out there racing and putting it all on the line.

Next season Johnny Schlitter will have to race a dual 700C big wheeler at BAF to be top man on the podium. With a Zipp 700c dimpled disc and 808 deep rim on front he will blow past the fellows that use those slower open rim wheelsets. Dimples are the next big thing JS.

Here is a picture of that young whipper snapper drafting a racer in the last half mile.
Go Johnny Go!!! Spin that draftmaster bigwheel!!!

Appears to have been a geriatric triumph. The winner was 54, second placer a year
or two older and Schlitter a year or two younger. Given that Schlitter was on a bent
with its lower air resistance, I would say the DF riders were damned impressive.
Race average speed was about 22.5mph. Schlitter came in first in last yrs Hotter
than Hell century in North Tx, in July or August. Steve

A paceline like this one might set a 5 hr total time record at a race like BAF
http://www.hpv.be/nederlands/Bend05/slides/PICT4818.JPG

JS and the race director did not want the circus factor of lowracer recumbents at BAF . According to DaMan it belongs at Wasco.

I can only imagine the 5 hour total time finish set by the low circus wheelers at BAF. I'll keep my fingers crossed that the nasty BAF lowracer bans get lifted for 2006.

Why would any fast 'bent rider respond to your post? Banning could happen.
So to be safe one should ignor posts such as this one and only respond to harmless 'bent questions such as are these bikes comfy? Fast? And race? Get a USCF license and a good DF bike and pull up to the start line.

Spuds,

I'm going to have to take issue with you on this one. Circus factor is a broad definition for ALL recumbent riders. The best proof is children and young ums reaction's to the platform:

"Oh man, cool"
"Wow"

Adults OTOH find disdain and disgust with typical remarks like:

"Are you handicapped?"
"Get a real bike!"
"You're cheating!"
"Wake up"
"Moron!"
"Got a TV on that thing?"

Spuds

Spuds,

Not to discredit John Schlitter's amazing INDIVIDUAL effort however you are discounting the original intention of the purported dream "Bacchetta Team's" goal.

John is by himself with the lead pack when there was so much rukus bragging about the eminent victory the TEAM was to accomplish. When John broke off to run with the lead group, NONE of the other numerous Titanium HighWalker Bacchetta riders were able to tag along.

With all the hoopla and press the Bacchetta principals present specifically stressing how much faster their platform is vs. traditional designs, one would expect a better outcome.

Point is, in a confrontation with a magnitude of this order, unless you win the event with a clear decisive effort, you finished LAST. There is only one winner at the 2005 BAF, a wedgie ridden by a 54 year old. Bet you won't see THIS mentioned on the Bacchetta site?

As I've said JS is DaMan. Anyone who can pedal fast and stay in the draft of lead racers at BAF for over 130 miles is a darn strong rider.

I celebrated the JS top 10 BAF finish with my favorite beverage Jolt cola. You DaMan JS!!!!.

I wonder what it will take to get JS and his Killer Bees to race my team at Morris, IL in May?

Spuds,

JS and his Bachetta "Dream Team" already confronted a single lowracer riders at the Hostell Shoppe Rally of late. See Ed Gins post taken today off MG's site:

Ramjet and MG,

The 2004 event was not a race in any way and I'll comment more at the end of this post.

However the 2003 event was entirely different as the HI vs. LOW debate was answered clearly when Bachetta's "Team" showed up with a 4 man revolving pace line and challenged the lowracer contingency.

KK can comment on this as HE was also in their rotation.

Understand the course is slightly hilly and the road surface was heavily "chipsealed." These two factors are specifically what the Bachetta and Hi Bike owners tout as advantages over the smaller wheeled lowracers. What better venue can they ask for to prove their superiorty? We've heard for years how fast they climb and roll far better with the big wheels especially on rough roads. The day was set for a big battle with EVERY ADVANTAGE going to the Hi Bikes. And what better group to represent them, the Bachetta boys commanded by Rich Pinto himself calling out the rotating shifts though I was told he did little pulling himself.

THIS private battle masked behind a recreational rally ride will go down the annals of history as the "LONE WOLF TAKES DOWN THE BACHETTA REVOLVING PACK." I surmise the news of this devestating victory was not mentioned much as AA's performance speaks for itself.

I'll admit I was responsible for some of the tactical decisions AA chose as we rode the course the day before and determined exactly where he should attack on the rollers prior to the return on the long straight County Road.

The decision to have a single lone lowracer rider challenge a revolving pack of highracers was to settle the high vs. low issue once and for all giving EVERY advantage to the boasting "Team." There can be NO DOUBT which platform is faster if a single rider broke off half way into the ride to hold off a pursuing pack of identical bikes in rotation.

The kudos all go to AA on his unfaired lowracer that day.

Seriously now, Spuds,

Do you really think JS will come to challenge a demonstrably FASTER bike ridden in THEIR rotating paceline?
And this course is flat with smooth pavement?

SloJoe,
When you log on the Bacchetta forums you can post this link directly to DaMan and legend Johnny Schlitter.
http://doctorvision.com/grundy/morris2005schedule.jpg

Its a flyer for the Grundy County SpeedFest race. I hope that you and all those elite killer bees with fancy blue jerseys will travel to Morris to race Stock. Young whipper snapper Johnny Schlitter and the killer bees can do the Aero paceline and draft each other in the 1/2 hour race. It will be a pleasure to race against DaMan and his killer bee paceline on the track.

BTW, there is no banning of lowracers at Morris like there was at BAF. The fastest high or low Stock recumbent wins. This is not a bent vs. DF race event. Its bents vs. bents.
