Bicycle Mechanics - A sticky problem

One possible solution to fitting a rear light to my Blackburn rack would be to modify the clip in Cateye holder and glue it in place.

Any recommendations for gluing plastic to coated aluminium?

Am I being over optimistic in thinking it might be strong enough?

Dude, just get velcro that has adhesive on the back, that way nothing is permanent, and no glue to try to get off later. Walmart has velcro for like 15 cents a foot.

the only reason I say this, is because the newer cars today have several onboard computers on them, and they are held to whatever by large patches of velcro, so when you stick your light down, make sure the entire bottom of the light is covered in velcro, that way it shouldnt wobble loose, works for cars, should work on a bike.

A guy on our Saturday morning ride lost his tail light this week as we went over a set of rail tracks. It was held on by velcro but jumped off with the bump. The thing got smashed up pretty bad.

like I said, the more surface area the better.

Use a nailpincher* to fasten your holder, its flat and solid, but definite as well.
Point: you have to drill one or two holes in your rack and holder!

I don`t think glue will hold, racks intend to vibrate much and therefore i think velcro wouldn`t hold either.

Is it a rivet you're talking about? Rivets work on a similar system.

I think you may be Richard. I would favour making a bracket and screwing the light to it.
