Mountain Biking - GT frame questions

First of all, how do Aggressor and Avalanche frames defer? To me they look the same.

Secondly, I think my new avalanche frame is too small for me, so I am planning to exchange it with a bigger one. So will the price of the frame increase or will it remain the same despite a change in size?

Thirdly, say I need a 17" frame but GT measures their frames by S, M, L, XL..... So what size is 17"?

My Giant is a Medium and that's a 19" frame ...

yah but giant is also a respectable company who designs there own frames unlike GT who is now "outta business" and buys there frames from taiwan cuz they are to ignorant to design themselves lol.

prolly around 250-400CDN so i guess 150-250 US anymore and its a unneeded markup. gt is bust now and bot by pacific so i dunno what urr warranty will be tho ur better buying another frame from a company thats in business

Your dealer should be able to tell you if there is a price diff, usually not. The differance between the two frames would probably be head angle, top tube length, seat angle and wheel base. Alot of frames look alike but those dimensions could differ just a bit which would make the bikes ride differently.

I suspect that, considering the price level, the frames are the same. However, as the previous post mentioned, GT is bankrupt. Dealers are eager to be rid of their frames as they are no longer backed up by a big company. Unless you are working with a nice bike shop ... good luck. I think the individual in the aforementioned post has his companies confused. GT was very well respected, designed their own frames and manufactured many of them in the United States. Giant is gaining respect because they offer great value, but their bikes are made overseas with the sloppy welds and glaring paint jobs one would expect.

Fallow up GT question. I have an I-Drive and give the GT bankrupt thing, was thinking of get a few spare parts, I love the frame and the I-Drive system. Rides better uphill then my brother Mt Cycle. No bob at all in the back. So if something goes, say the barring in the I-Drive I want to replace just that part rather then the frame. Anyone know of a source for parts.

So I will be wasting money if I change to a frame of another company as no one would buy GT's products now anyway right?

Most of the low-mid priced GT frames were made in Taiwan, along with most low-mid priced Treks, Specialized etc. Welding on Giants is as good as on most MTB's (they supply many of the frames to the other companies anyway). I don't think you'll find many frames from any of the bigger names with sloppy welding. As to paint jobs that's a matter of personal taste, but the I don't think how tasteful it is depends on the country of manufacture as to the companies marketing people.

I am in Taiwan for holidays and will be going back to US once the semester starts. So what do you guys suggest?

Should I buy another frame from another brand and sell my current frame when I return to US or should I just stick to this frame, or otherwise?

I have only ride with this frame for less than 2 km so far and if I decide to change it I have to do it soon or else I can't ride my bike.

Sorry, I like Giant ... a friend recently bought one on my recomendation.. the welds did disapoint me but hey, what a value. I have a Rocky Mountain, it's stupid to compare the welds on a $2, 000 bike with a $500 bike. Anyway, I tried to dig up information on the Avalanche and Aggressor.

Aggressor: 7005 aluminium frame features GT Triple Triangle design with protapered downtube and replaceable rear derailleur hanger.

Avalanche: 7000 series aluminum, formed and tapered top tube, oversized bi-ovalized gusseted down tube, box chainstays, oversized constant radius seatstays

I used to own a Giant too, nothing wrong with the welding except for being exposed too much unlike other neater brands.

So what do these info mean? I am not too expert in bike technology. can someone explain what these details mean?

Right now I can only judge based on the prices. Aggressor has a lower combo of parts as compared to Avalanche, so does this mean that avalanche is a better frame? Better in terms of what?

The Avalanche frame is "worked" a bit more to provide different ride qualities. If you have the money, you may as well go with it.
