a friend of mine wants to build his own bike and is looking for a frame. hes probably going to use it mostly for XC, and has about £800 ($1300 ish) to spend in total, probably going with LX/ XT quaility components over most of the bike. ideas for a frame? hes looked at a Identity Dr Jekyll frame, that cost about £200, you think its worth a look?

scrap all of that, hes just gonna buy a shop bike, either the Marin Rocky Ridge or the Trek 6700, the Marin is £70 more expenisve but has slightly better components, Xt Rear deraiulleur and avid SD 7 brakes/ levers, which do you think is better??

Why not go for a decent used bike? You can get a lightweight XC hardtail with XT/XTR components for around his budget. Is it more of having the satisfaction of building up a custom bike?

That Dr. Jekyll frame looks more like a Dual Slalom or Freeride hardtail rather than a lightweight XC frame. What type of riding is he planning on doing? If indeed it's XC, then I'd suggest another frame.

I'd spend more of the budget on the frame and the fork and less on the components. The frame is the heart of the bike and a good one will outlast any component!
