Okay I know - Not a bad problem to have, but here is the question:
Looking to buy a new bike this summer and need some help/feedback.
• Price $4000 range
• Rider weight 200lb
• Age of rider 40
• Ride type is mostly single track/forest roads/small hills
• Southern Ontario ride/ travel area
• Intermediate ability
• Present bike 2002 Specialized Enduro Pro(getting worn out)
• Ride 3-4 times per week
• No preference to make or model
• Would like disc/dual suspension
Any personal experience, help or guidance into making a good choice on this next purchase would be greatly appreciated.

Specialized SX trail maybe:

Check out the Santa Cruz Blur. The new LT coming out looks pretty cool with 135 mm travel in the rear or the XC with 115 mm travel. Could set up a great xc bike with either one of them. If you don't mind a little extra weight the Heckler is a great bike as well that can be built up relatively light at 27 - 28 pounds.

if you have 4g to spend it would almost be worth puting together your own bike
and if not the blur might be a good choice

Wow 4g...I am not sure how to answer that question haha. I am in shock.
To be honest, the sx trail would be at the top of my list. Pretty smoking bike stock, won't be much to bother upgrading and it will literally handle anything ontario has to throw at it.

For $4K, you could build your own perfect $3K bike and spend $1K travelling to really cool places to ride. Like Arizona, or Fiji, or Japan. Or even BC.
Just seems like after a point, unless you're racing, the money isn't getting you a better bike, just more bragging rights, or more bling. And $3K seems like plenty of money to buy/build a badass bike.

Or he could donate that extra grand to a poor student in Regina :) :) :)

If I had the cash and wanted a full suspension it would be a Trek Session 77.

Some guys don't want to build up a bike, they would rather by something out of the box, and ride it, and that's cool. If it was me I would go for the P3, or for a full suspension frame a Big Hit, frames and then go from there.

Hey guys this isn't a "if you had 4000$" thread. Its a "what bike should I buy for 4000$ that wouldbe good for trails." No a bighit fr bike, not a dh bike, not a light weight xc bike. Trails...If you want to start yet ANOTHER "whats your dream bike" thread feel free. (4k wouldn't get me my dream bike either...4k american maybe)

If you were a smooth rider I might go boutique with that kind of coin. I don't really like ellsworth (I am a heavy hack who doesn't ride xc) but this would suit ontario fine.

From the sounds of it, I get the feeling that you dont jump and aren't too abusive on your equipment. Are you looking for an all mountain bike or a light weight XC bike?
Light weight XC bikes:
1) Rocky Mounta Element
2) Specialized Epic
3) Giant Trance
All Mountain bikes:
1) Cannondale Prophet 4000 (drool)
2) Rocky Mountain ESTX
3) Something from Specalized.
Sounds like you're getting something sweet. Good luck

WOW, that is a great price on that bike. The frame normally retails for $1995 (US). So for another grand you get the whole bike, that is a sweet deal. Put the extra money towards a nice set of wheels from Mike Garcia and you will be set.

Yeti 575.... http://www.yeticycles.com/1_bikes/kits_575_racedisc.html
it's light and has a bunch of travel for hitting the trail hard. With the stable platform shocks the climbing will be like a xc bike. This bike in the link goes for around 3k.

:D yeah I agree - apart from bars, stem and seat post it's a freeride/xc/all mountain bike for around $4k
whether it's a route Toronto wants to go down is up to him.
