Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - What kind of helmet is this?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. What kind of helmet is this?
Backstory:
I saw this guy in Garmisch, Germany, last September 11th (the last race of our mtb season.) He was bad ass and every lap he was handed a beer by his significant other which he slammed without even stopping. He was the only guy on an SS and I think he finished like 3rd.

that's an old-school cinelli leather hairnet helmet, slightly better than a cycling cap for for protecting your noggin.

See above post. He's absolutely correct.
Have a ball, its discounted to 17 dollars. Just in case you are curious, it is found in the "accessories" section, not the "helmet" section.
hairnet from labicicletta (http://www.labicicletta.com/edatcat/us/tlsstore.cgi?user_action=detail&catalogno=US-HAIRNET)
huh, thats embarassing, can anyone tell me how to make that link look appropriate?

oops, I went in there and fixed it for you, but everyone else jumped in...cuz we are so damn bored, we have little choice but to read hairnet posts!!!
Huh, I suppose it is a bit of a slow day.
Anyway, thats for fixing that.
lol...keeps your ears from being ground off while sliding on the pavement...nice!
I read somewhere recently that those are still legal in some European races that require helmets; it looks to have been legal in this race. One curious place I saw a hairnet helmet a few years ago was on a Harley motorcycle rider, during a time when Texas motorcycle helmet laws were a little ambiguous.

That wouldn't include UCI races.
Yeah, that's just the local (Germany/Italy) podunk military series I race in. The rules just say 'a helmet'.
My dad's got one of those fake "half-shell" helmets with a DOT sticker because of the helmet law in PA...I told him he should wear a real one, but you can't tell him anything. He's one of those damn Harley guys.

Hmmmm...
I wonder, if you were to combine the protective powers of a leather hairnet and a cycling cap if you'd have yourself a real helmet on your hands?

there is no helmet law in PA; he can ditch the plastic-german helmet altogether.
