Mountain Biking - FOES WEASEL FRAME... AND!! a build kit????

SO i need a new mountain bike... and as a college studenti dont have much cash, so I might purchasea Foes Weasel frame for a few hundred bucks, and take some time (a few months or so) and slowly build up a bike!

so a few questions... anyone know how the weasel would handle some cross country riding if i built it up right? I have half and half responses on its ability to climb, but i think it would handle well..

2nd question, where can i get build kits/parts for a GREAT price? Like i said, im on a budget!! thanks guys

What kind of budget are we talkin here? You'll need a fork plus all componets, it's not going to be cheap.

Apparently you guys didnt read my post very thoroughly. But that's okay. I am not going to buy the whole bike at once, rather have it as a project until it is finished. As for my other question about the ride quality of the Weasel in a cross-country setting, any experience?

Yes agreed, I think its wonderful your going to get a Foes frame for a few hundred bucks. It's just that, a build kit is going to be pretty pricey, maybe the $600 range and thats still no fork.

Well, I just won an EBAY auction for a black weasel frame for $305. Pretty decent deal? Im thinking about buying a couple year old decent bike with good components for maybe 200 bucks off a local classifieds, and transferring all the parts to my new weasel. Im getting a rock shox psylo fork for $75 from the net.

So, 305+200+75= $580 + parts installation for my new weasel :) Not too bad huh?

Can't tell from the picture, but are there any disc tabs on the rear swingarm???

If not, that'll limit you to some decent linear pull (Vee) brakes. You can run a front disc and linear pull in back.

As far as how the bike rides in a XC set-up, that frame was a long travel bike of years ago, so the geometries might be a bit wierd if you mount a shorter travel fork. If you go with a fork with similar travel as the rear it should give you a balanced feel. The Psylo is a good choice with the adjustable travel. That'll give you the opportunity to adjust the feel of the bike by effectively adjusting the geometry with the travel setting of the fork. More Travel = slacker effective head tube angle = slower steering. Shorter Travel = steeper e.h.t.a. = quicker more responsive steering.

It should end up as a sweet "all mountain" bike. It'll be a bit on the porkier side. I'm guessing you'll easily eclipse the 30 to 32 pound mark.

Personally I think youve wasted your money. $350 could have been better spent elsewhere.

I dunno, $350 for a Foes frame isn't a bad deal. It really depends on the condition. It's an older frame, but still a decent design. Heck new MSRP on it (back in the day) was over $2,000.00.

I'm not a big fan of single pivots, but it'll end up as a nice bike.

Yeah, I wont mind the weight. Im a big guy, 6'4 200 lbs.. and ill ride it hard!

Btw, troie.. where would you have recommended me to spend my $350?
