I need a new saddle but I am very broke at the moment. Anyone have any good tips on some cheap but pretty comfy saddles? My ass is pretty tough from some nasty saddles in the past, but I'd like something a little on the cooshy side. I don't expect to be on it for more than 15 miles at a time, but I might do a 30 miles stint every now and then.
thanks.

saddles advice can be difficult since comfort is very often determined by body shape. regardless, the specialized bg series is generally comfortable and inexpensive. one of the less expensive models was used on a cross country with no comfort complaints. however, the leather started to separate at the seam (after multiple impacts with ground) and it made some funky squeaking noises. a lot of places will allow you a trial period with saddles.

One option to get a cheap but decent saddle is to visit your local high-end reasonable-volume-of-sales bike store. Round here there are a couple of places that have a bin for all the take-off saddles from road bikes that people have upgrade from or just not wanted.
Some of these seats tend to be pretty decent and comfy. Got one for 15 bones that has a nice gel insert and works pretty damn good for me so far. Won't find anything earth shatteringly great but generally there are some decent ones to be found.
And then you can save up for a Brooks or other damn fine saddle that will last you for a long time.

i agree with chimblysweep, go with the brooks.
I bought an old beat up brooks b17 narrow on ebay for $20 and soaked it in leather oil for 30 minutes. It doesn't look so hot, but it's nice. define cheap :)

Which Brooks for general riding and an occasional longer (40 mile - century) ride?
Ha, I have been waiting for someone to drop this on. I have heard some really good things about this really cheap british company and have been waiting for someone to try it. It has a really funky look to it.

how'd you break your brooks in? I have a Swift at home that conditioned but not mounted yet. Definitely want to break it in but also don't want to feel like someone's sister in prison if you catch my drift.
There's a Selle San Marco road bike seat on Ebay for 1 cent.

As already said, saddle comfort is a personal thing. With that said, I recently swiped out my expensive flite italia, for a $30 San Marco Rolls Saddle, this damn thing is comfortable! I decided to get this saddle after reading many positive reviews, and the price was right.
I'm not too crazy about its old school look (on my bike), but my #$$ doesn't care! I did a 60 mile ride last weekend and got home without saddle sores, which is a first for me on a long distance ride.

yeah, but that is the problem with brooks, they need as much care as a child if you want them to live long.

I use a cheapo aireon saddle that can be bought at supergo/nashbar They are both the same thing. It has a near identical Selle Italia SLR shape/profile and feels the same under my butt. What can I say? My boney ass likes them. Look on supergo for the aireon team race saddle and they are listed under "Nashbar Racing Saddle" on nashbar. Cheap, same looks/feel as the SLR but around 20-30 bucks. I would have bought another SLR but my old one was all torn up from falling and stuff so I decided to hunt around for a cheaper alternative and I found it =)
Just a heads up for people who like the slim profile saddles =P

I've got Performance Foré Pro SLX saddle and love it. Light, comfy, sexy, and not too costly.

I like the San Marco Concors and have been loving the Selle Italia Turbo I got a few months ago; both can be had for like 30 bucks on ebay.

Great... I just discovered I need a glow in the dark saddle.
Hey, I am not going to buy one myself, but I would love to see someone else do it....
I am trying to think of the situation where glow in the dark would be a benefit?

The Turbo is the isht, though they don't make 'em anymore so you'll have to find them NOS. Still, it ain't exactly "cooshy".

Cheap = ~ $30. A Brookes is way out of my price range until I get a decent job.
Thanks for the tips so far. I have a promo code for 20% at Nashbar good through tomorrow, so that should help.

if its the same nashbar code that i had, it's only good for orders over $75. i used it to order a brooks and some of that wax to maintain it. that brings it over $75 total.
my @$$ can hardly wait...!
I second the Performance Forte Pro SLX. It was $30 when I picked it up.
anyone have any info/experience about this one?

Selle Italia Mythos Saddle
It kind of looks like a zebra hoof to me. Maybe that's where the Mythos name comes from. Perhaps it's supposed to look like a Pegasus hoof.

The Real Man Saddle! http://www.sheldonbrown.com/real-man.html
Made out of Granite
Heres a cool comfort saddle but it costs $100
As far as that Rido saddle, I've been needing a new seat and I'll probably give it a try.
