Welcome to the Forums, always good to hear from someone new.

I have never heard of the bicycle brand you mention. But if you'll up grade your description a little, you might get some knowledgeable or educated guesses from our members.

Is it 8,9 or 10 speed?

Does it have Campy Record, Chorus, Veloce or Daytona
equipment?

What kind of brakes and shifters does it have?

Do you know how old the bike is?

All of this information, and any other you could supply, would help any of the members who felt they could give a reasonable answer to your question about "how much is it worth?"

3Rensho,
Welcome to the Forums.
I don't know a whole lot about the marque but I do
know they were fairly expensive during their time.
The builder Yoshi Konno was paralysed in a car
crash and is not building anymore so your frame
might be worth a lot.
You can check with yellojersey (http://www.yellowjersey.org/konno.html)
they have article/pictorial about them, and you could
always e-mail questions.
Good luck
Marty

Looks like they still might be building them? They have a racing team with some profiles - do you read Japanese? - http://members.jcom.home.ne.jp/3rensho/

Upon further investigation, it looks like the other half of 3Rensho has started up his own framebuilding company and uses 3rensho and makino interchangebly.

I found out a little more information about
3Rensho, according to yellowjersey Ltd:
All models are labelled "Super Record Export".
An SR model has a chrome fork, flat crown, oval blades.
SRA have aero blades, painted fork, internal crown
KatanaPro have NSK aero blades with cast crown.
Keirin Pro have of course round blades.

Are there any identifying marks decals etc. on
the frame? If no decals how have you identified
it as 3Rensho?
The components, Super Record or Nuovo Record?
I would guess this is a early to mid 80's era
frame.
Could you post some pics of the frame?
Marty

Addendum:
A guestimate on prices: NOS 3Rensho frame from Konno era
approx $1200 to $1800 depending on model.
New 3rensho about $495.
YellowJersey sells NOS decals but they're expensive (like $100 for
the set).

On the lower right hand stay it has 3rensho inscribed. It also says SuperEnd and Japan on the dropouts. The only reason i thought it might be the super record export is because it looks like it...thats all.

I can try to get some pics.

3Rensho,

The new bike (Katana/S) has seatstay like this:

The older bike (Katana Pro) has seatstay like this:
http://www.yellowjersey.org/katanapro3.jpg

All of the 3Renshos exported out of Japan were SuperRecord
export. The superend dropouts first appeard about 1986.

3Rensho aka San Rensho are superbly made framesets. Since yours has SunTour brakes I'm guessing a 1980s model. One thing that'll eliminate alot of possibilities is the shifting mechanism. Since it's got SunTour brakes there won't be Campy Ergo to go with that drivetrain. That leaves downtube or barend shifters. When you shift does the shifter have a definite "clicking" noise? If not then it's an earlier 1980s model. With 3Rensho the older is probably better when it comes to collectability. As has been noted the founder and original builder was paralyzed so newer frames, though very good, wouldn't be the same to a collector.

Many knowledgable cycling enthusiasts put 3Rensho on a level comparable to such Euro marques as Cinelli or Masi. However, as an Asian bike and not as well known it won't draw the $ the Euro bikes will.

You didn't say if you want to ride or not but if you do you will go far before you find a better start.

(edit) I just, more carefully, reread the thread and saw that you're a prospective buyer. I'd love to own a Rensho but IMO that's too pricey. I've seen Masis go for $1200 and they have a much larger market if you ever want to resell. Maybe a year ago somebidy sold a number of older NOS Rensho framesets on eBay and they sold for $350-450 if memory serves.

Walter,

I had a coworker in mid 80's who raced, rode a Basso (he
thought colnago was too much hype!) and he really lusted
after a 3Rensho. I've seen a few but not many.
If you're really interested the site I've been getting most
of my info from has some frames for sale. Most appear
to be newer models, but a few are the real thing mid
80's Yoshi Konno frames. They are going for about $1200
NOS.

My 3rensho has the older style seatpost clamp. As for the shifters i am not sure.....i want to sell this bike.

You want to sell?

I guess I didn't read carefully enough after all.

The shifter question will answer itself as soon as
you pull/push on one.

eBay does give you the most exposure to potential
buyers but is a bit of a hassle. Include good pictures
and describe each component.

I have no doubt it'll sell but to be honest I don't think
you'll get the $1200 that's been talked about.

You never know though....

What size is it?

Walter,

The $1200 I mentioned was for NOS never built never
ridden frame by Konno.
everything I've seen for used was in the $200 to $300 range
(with the exception of a TT frame which was about $500)
these were in archives, old classifieds etc.
I didn't know his motive was to sell it, thought he
had obtained it and wanted to know about it.
might not have done so much research had I known
this previously.

I hear you. Much better feeling to answer questions for someone who wants to know about what they're actually riding. Oh well, what the......

Thanks for the link tip. I'll have to bide my time and see what pops up used and later. I'd be sleeping outside if I dropped $1200 on a frameset right now even if it was made by DaVinci and painted by Michelangelo.

Can someone help me identify my 3Rensho as well? It has an aero crown fork, a mix of 600/105 parts and Campy dropouts. Serial #A948-600. It also has <EO> Medalist stamped on the BB shell. What does that indicate? According to the following website it is an Andrew Muzi imported model, but that's all I can really glean from the internet so far. http://scratchpad.wikia.com/wiki/3Rensho

And yes I realize it's a sort of "wiki" entry...

I'd take a Yoshi frame 3rensho over any new mass produced bike, hands down. Have some respect.

Please man, somehow you pick up on disrespect in a post kindly asking for info on a bicycle. I know it's one of the nicest "brands" ever and it rides like it is. Maybe asses the respect factor on your level before accusing other people of lacking in the same area. If you know something and can help me out, great, if not, then you don't need to post in this thread.

Go right to the source! Andrew Muzi is the owner of Yellow Jersey here in Madison. You can contact him via phone or email- his website is a bit of a trip, but they have some good stuff on 3Rensho as well as contact info: www.yellowjersey.org, he's there pretty much every day.
