Hello,

I just wanted to introduce myself to this forum.

I have not even seen a bicycle since around the early 1980's.
They look completely different now.

My young Son just learned to ride a bike without training wheels.
So,I thought it was time for me to get a bike in order to keep up with him.
I rode my Dawes when I was in high school.
It was given to me by my Brother.
But this is not what I need to keep up with my Son.
So I just picked up my Father's old Univega.
I know it is not anything special but I just wanted something to ride around with my Son on.

So I signed up on this forum to ask some questions about getting it up and running.

I live in Northern Ca.

Looking foreward to this forum,

Thank you,

Mr. Dawes

Sounds like a good reason to start biking to me! I have of late been getting back into riding and just bought a Felt 80 for my first road bike. My oldest son just bought a bike off e-bay, steel frame and ultegra running gear.

Welcome.

Hello,

Thank you for the kind words!

My Univega is still sitting in my garage.
Neet to go to a local shop to put it together.

I was speaking to Avocet about it and they told me to contact Jobst Brandt.
Hope I spelled his name correctly.
He wrote some books on wheels.
I really wanted to get something lighter and mre durable but he said do to my wheel size Etc. that it would not be worth it.
Told me not to upgrade anything because anything current would most likely not fit an older bike.
I should have been more clear with him.
I am really not interested in anything current in regards to parts.
That woulkd take all the fun out of it.
Was inquiring about using older parts.

But at the end of his reply he did state that even my old Univega was probably better that most of what out ther now in regards to the fram Etc.
Just as I thought.

So for now,
I will just have to be at the mercy of my local bike shop.

Your road bike looks very nice!

Where is Felt from?
Never heard of it.
