Just got my speedplay pedals and I know I need to add some type of grease to the threads before inserting into the cranks. Also, how tight should I tighten them. thanks

Anti-sieze grease is copper based, but I have had no problems using a standard white lithium grease.

If you don't happen to have anti-sieze grease (honey, where did you put the anti-sieze grease?), I have used whatever grease is available and it works fine.

I know a guy who used Vaseline as grease and swore by it. I bought (old) bikes from him, and sure enough, the parts hadn't siezed up.

Of course, in your case, I think we are talking about aluminum cranks and hardened or carbon steel pedal axles. Aluminum and steel tend to weld together, so anti-sieze would make good sense if you have it.

Yes, definitely, anti-seize is absolutely the best stuff to use. Use cage mechanics use it on exhaust bolts on manifolds, and they come right out on demand, with never a broken stud to be found. Whoever desinged the stuff should be a billionaire, as I use it faithfully on anything I want to come off. i.e. freewheels. Now dont use too much, just enough to cover the inside of the threads, I just normally put a little on one side of the threads, as it will dispurse evenly when you are tightening.

Where do you find this anti-seize grease?

You can find anti seize at any parts store, NAPA, Autozone, Checkers, Pep Boys, Big A, etc... you can even find it at wally world i do beleive. I even make my own blend of oil to oil moving parts as well, it is 1 oz of prolong oil treatment, 1 oz of STP oil treatment, 1/2 oz pb blaster, add this to 1 quart (minus 2 1/2 oz) machinists oil, or straight 30w oil. I use this on all moving parts on cars as well as my bike, and have had no probs with it.
