Spinning saves the knees...

I have a Campy setup with 30-40-50 chain rings and (currently) 13-26 cassette. With this setup, I loose top speed down hill with only a 50x13. I could change the large chain ring to 52; however, has anyone tried a difference of 2 teeth between the cassette's SMALLEST gears, ie 12-14-15-16-17-...?

What experience have folks have with the Marchisio cassettes?

See also a thread I started called, Help Rear Cassette 11-32 or 11-34. I got a lot of help from people generally about gearing. If you use the gear calculator and put in a 52 instead of a 50 and a 12 instead of an 11, you will sort of see how your gear inches work out. It is worth persisting and studying this as when you get it right it is worth it. I received a lot of info from members of the forum on this.

Yea nearly every new MTB out there has something like 11-13-15-17-20-23-26-30
I just changed my MTB to a custom cassette of 14-16-17-19-21-23-26-30, two tooth jump from 14-16.
I figured I hardly ever used my 15 13 or 11 when off road, even racing, so I went for a closer ratio in the mid range with a top end bailout for the down hills like your thinking. I have a 13 on hand if the 14 proves insufficiant, I just put it together, seems to work well but haven't had a real test yet(race).

My road bike uses 13-15-17-19-21-24-28, hyperglide style, freewheel and works dandy, 17 19 and 21 are the most used so its just right. 13-15 is two tooth.

That reminds me, what's with the 13 top on your bike, is it a freehub or freewheel?

13 to 12 in the back is the same as 50 to 54 in the front. 50x12 is 109.9 gear inches and 54x13 is 109.6 inches, even a full inch isn't noticable.(a bit less than one percent)
