Cyclocross - Removable Chain Links?

Does anyone use one of the removeable chain links (e.g. Superlink, Connex link, SRAM gold link, etc).

I tried the Superlink III on my Campagnolo 10 sp road bike and after about 500 miles it started making ticking noises. Actually I could feel this pulsation. Eventually I figured out it was the link and simply eliminated it using my chain tool. No problems since then.

However, the ability to easily remove your chain for cleaning seems invaluable for cross racing.

So how durable/reliable are these things? I'm not sure if my experience was out of the ordinary. Would they work for cross racing even though they seem flimsey?

I use the Sram one on all my bikes. Never caused a problem, and it does make cleaning way easier.

sounds like a compadability issue between the link and campy chain. try one of the links. I use the scram on a 9 speed system without any problems.

SRAM is great. I use it on 2 SS CX'es.

I think they are must-have items.

I use SRAM on alll my bikes: road, 'cross, mountain... over perhaps 20-25 thousand miles on and off road, never had a SRAM power-link fail and never had a problem.

a power link is _much _ better than using a chain tool to connect or break. doing so weakens the chain eveytime you take a tool to your chain.

I actually have had a sram power link fail twice, same place in the trail and same cause, a bad / late shift.
That being said, I doubt that it's cause for alarm, just my poorly timed shifting.

I kinda settled on SRAM PC-69 series chains myself. Not too expensive, stronger than Shimano, easy to keep clean, spare powerlink in the patch kit, and removeable for a thorough cleaning too. I've never had one fail, but I've heard others recommend using a new powerlink every third or fourth time you take the chain off for cleaning. I only give the chain a thorough cleaning every 400-500 mountain miles or 800-1000 road miles. My chains generally wear out before I get that far.
