Bicycle Mechanics - E-type F/D and BB sizing

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
So I've taken the plunge and I'm converting my 8-speed to a 9-speed (thank you, eBay). The big change means dumping my Alivio E-type F/D for a Deore top-swing and square-taper BB for an ISIS BB. But does dropping the E-type F/D mean that I need to decrease the BB width by the same amount? Or does the BB need to stay the same? And how am I supposed to pull the E-type F/D off? Thanks!
