General Cycling Discussion - Please join this online bicycle club.

I have created a new online bicycle club at bikejournal.com. I invite everyone here to join. It is called:Ancient Free & Accepted Masons Online Bicycle Club. You do not have to be a Mason or affiliated with the fraternity in anyway to join. It is open to all.

Masons (also known as Freemasons) belong to the oldest and largest fraternal organization in the world. Today, there are more than two million Freemasons in North America. Masons represent virtually every occupation and profession, yet within the Fraternity, all meet as equals. Masons come from diverse political ideologies, yet meet as friends. Many of North America's early patriots were Freemasons. Thirteen signers of the Constitution and fourteen Presidents of the United States, including George Washington, were Masons. In Canada, the Father of the Confederation, Sir John A. MacDonald, was a Mason, as were other early Canadian and American leaders.

One of the most fascinating aspects of Freemasonry is how so many men, from so many different walks of life, can meet together in peace, always conducting their affairs in harmony and friendship and calling each other "Brother."

At first I was going to have the online bike club open to Masons only. Then I felt it went against what I believe to be intolerance of others so I opened it to everyone who wishes to join. As a Mason I have learned to be tolerant of other people's beliefs & cultures, what ever they may be. This is not to say I was not tolerant to begin with before I became a Mason, I was. Becoming one has only made that belief stronger. So yes anyone may join this online bike club.

It's interesting to me that you don't really see this often. In NC Mason's are very common (my dad was very active in the Masons when I was younger). It is pretty well known here and I didn't realize it wasn't that way everywhere. It must be due to the fact I live in the bible belt and the Masons are a religion based organization.

There is a Team bikeforums.net team at bikejournal. It would be nice to have all bikeforums.net members on their own team, and not to have a competing team promoted this website.

No we are not a religion based organization. We are non-secular. To be a Mason you have to profess a belief in a Supreme Being. But the way you believe & whether or not you worship that Supreme Being is up to you. If the Masons required a person to worship or if we held worship services during lodge meetings we would be religion based. We do not do these things, therefore we are not a religion or religous based. Unfortunatley if you go to Barnes & Noble you'll find certain books about the Masons in the religion section. They should not be there, but they are.

I would not really consider it a "competing team". On bikejournal.com I am a member of SCCC which is my local cycling club. That being said I see my self a member of the "bikeforums.net" community also.

Haven't seen any down here. It don't get any more Bible Belt than AL.
