Hello

I am just getting into mountain biking and I just got a new bike and was wondering how is this thing and if i got a good deal on it? This bike is about 1 month old when i got it, so it was used but in excellent condition, look at the gears on the back, they look unused

anyways this is all i know about the bike

is specialized a good brand in general?

Its a Specialized P.2
Specialized A1-Aluminum frame
Ditch Witch rims
Marzocchi fork
TruVativ Hussefelt cranks with bash guard
Hayes discs
Specialized tires

I got this bike for $250 Canadian is that a good deal?

thats what i was thinking.
The Truvativ hussefelts alone are over 100USD
Did you get it used, or find a really dumb seller?

Hussefelts come stock on the P2. The bike retails for like 900, but we have them at the shop for 800. Thats a really really good deal you got. Its a DJ/ Urban bike, so drop the seat and lose the fenders (as mentioned above) and you are set.

Not everyone uses the bike that way. With short inseam the bike could easily be a trail bike. My cousin rides his on trails with tonnes of success...sooo....

Keep the bike the way you like it, and ignore the naysayers, good job and congrats on a smoking deal.

Thanks everyone

It was a smocking deal cuz well, i got it through some people
basically what happened is a guy living around here (in alberta) was moving to Tornto and couldn't take the bike with him, so he sold it to this guy I work with for 250 bucks. He didn't want to take the bike cuz he doesn't ride, but did anyways. Once i saw it I swore I heard of specialized before and thought they made good bikes, so i just offered the dude 250 for it and he accepted, picked it up same day.

I just put the mud guards on there today actually, i did some searching around here and people definately hate on them around these boards haha, if i could i would keep em off too, but it would be a problem. I haven't gone out of town on this bike yet (just got it and its exams time in school right now) but i have gone down to the woods nearby, well its a park but deep in the woods and its all offroad..and its all wet and nasty so i had to get some guards as I don't got the cloathing yet, was just wearing normal stuff. And to get to the park is about a 20 min ride on normal streets so i guess its a commute/offroad bike for me.

It rides really nicely so it suits me.

I am not even sure about all these different categories of bikes haha, but pending on how involved i get into this stuff I might upgrade in a year or so to dual suspencion and all that.

I think someone got you guys hook line and sinker, by the way there's no bash gaurd on that crank. The deal seems to good to be real. I don't care who you are your not selling a P.2 for $250 canadian.

whats a bash guard? Is that the thing by your front gear so that if u highcenter u don't mess up the gears? if it is where can i get one of those?

yah well i know the guy i bought it from for like 4 years so i trust him, bought a few things off him before so he doesn't changer more then what he pays for it. This guy is like 250 pounds and pretty big so he don't need a bike, more like a couch potato, he only bought it to help out a buddy who had to move right away and needed to get rid of the bike.

What type of things should i put on it to keep it against damage, like around gears and such. Is there some guard for the rear gear changer part so that it doesn't get bear up?

Thanks

That bike usually comes with a bashguard. You have to use the Truvativ one with that guide.

the gear changer is called a derailleur.
A bashguard is this metal ring some people put on the front gears (called chainrings). Say you have 3 chainrings, you replace the largest and put this metal "plate" to protect them from logs and things of the like.
Derailleurs have a habit of breaking, well sometimes. They have these things called derailleur hangers though...
Basically, there is a very maleable piece of metal holding the derailleur to the frame so that if your derailleur hits a rock or whatnot, instead of the 50 dollar derailleur being broken, the derailleur hanger sacrifices itself like a fuse. ANd these cost usually around 20 to replace.

Many bashguards are made out of lexan, which wont bend out of shape like an aluminum MRP would.

what's a boxguide? and why's a compatible bashgaurd so important?

are people really that stupid ?
for 400$ or even 500$ you could put this bike into ebay or wherever and someone will buy in ten minutes .people that sell for that cheap ,usually have to much money .oh well must be nice.

probably just wanted to get rid of it(the seller that is), so he put it up for cheap.

yah he really did need to get rid of it, i asked my friend again, said the original tag on the bike was 1200 Canadian

the boxguide is the tensioner the keeps you chain tight on the front ring. there is no other bashguard(that i know of) that works with the boxguide because of the way it is designed. the bashgaurd for it is shaped so it will clear it.

Wow, great deal on that bike. I wish I knew some people who were so desperate to sell their nice bikes :P

This bike was obviously stolen.
Otherwise he would have sold it through appropriate channels.

The story is fabricated to appease you.

Specialized is a "decent" brand, to answer your 1st post....

Sorry Guys! Let the hounding begin. I've had that kind o' week already :(

Loved Mael's "Smokin' Deal" reply. It probably came w/ a pair of gloves, since it was so HOT ....

i have to say honestly i believe that too .ether some rich kid traded it for some dope or it is stolen.inn my experience ,those to good to be true things are 99% always what theire name says.

ehh well i dunno, maybe it was i highly doubt it thought, some people who work downtown may have to transfer with only a weeks notice, and when u have that little of time you got other things to worry about then selling one bike, you have to sell all your other stuff too. So i dunno, i believe the guy. And some people really got to look closer for deals, i get lots of stuff for very cheap because I wait for the deal to come along, i am a constant ebay shopper too so I try to find cheap stuff that noone noticed.

I got a 800 dollar USD leather interior for my car brand new for 250 bucks US on ebay, its all about being there at the right time i guess.

Like i said maybe it was stolen, but i highly doubt it, i known this guy for a long time and I know he didn't steal it, maybe if it was stolen it was stolen somewhere down the line, but I have no idea. From what he tells me dude had to move to the east right away and had to get rid of everything asap

is there anywhere where I can run a serial number scan on this thing? Like cars have the vin numbers, anything like that exists for bikes?
