When I made my limbo into a SWB the front brake was a pain to rout the cable. It had to loop back and then make a U turn to the noodle.
Plus silly me I love to upgrade a bike and MBR gave a good review of avid single digit 7’s and I found them for a great price.
Well they sure sucked. You would get them setup right and if I ever released them or touched the pads they would get unbalanced. You adjust them and two rides later they would have to be adjusted back just like clockwork. Plus I had to have them set on the strongest spring setting to get them to work well. The leavers really sucked they had a lot of slop in them and never felt good.
Well I wanted a reversible noodle brake and they are only three choices. Paul’s brakes rated the best avid ultimate at 80.00 each set or cane creeks at the same price.
So off to eBay but even the used brakes were going for almost new prices. I kept bidding on Pauls and kept getting outbid. The last was a new set that goes for 115 new went for 165.00 well I bid on this auction http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7148011155
I bid a max of 135.00 and knew I would lose.
But I was very surprised to win. Well I got them today and went to install them. I replaced the pads with the ones on my other brakes as I can get that brand locally. Plus then I could tell how effective the new brakes were.
These are so easy to setup. Get the pad set flat to the rim and make sure the ends are not too high and that’s it. If you need higher or lower or toe in just adjust the pad holder. Very cool. Plus I can have the tension really light on these. So the brakes feel so smooth and easy. I can stop better with one finger on these then three with my other V brakes.
They are well work the cost to me. I hope I can sell my spare parts and buy the levers.
