Down in Milwaukee I commute from West Allis to Tosa every day. Its like there is a Berlin wall at the Wauwatosa city line. Any one else down here?

I grew up on the so. side of Milw. I Knwo what you mean. Hey--at least they but a bike lane on Howell Ave now--although the motorists just consider it to be a really small turning lor merge ane I think. The one time i rode down Howell in the bike lane i had a constant banter of horns, figures and obscenities hurled at me.

Down in Milwaukee also but I could hook you up with some guys in FDL it's a little closer to GB.

I commute on the southside as many days as possible from W. Milw to BayView and only occasionally have trouble with cars. My big problem is flats from riding past the dump on Lincoln!

What kind of tires? Lincoln and what cross street? I did not know there was a dump over there.

Lincoln between 43rd and 35th. It's the cities southside H2O distrubution yard, municipal garage, transfer station, self help dump, tow lot, and unclaimed car recycling all in a row. I've taken to riding the sidewalk for those couple of blocks as the debris isn't quite so bad. 700 X 25 continentals on my hybrid.

Well there are a few places here in the Green Bay area to ride. First of all is Baird Creek Park....most riders go there. There is also the Reforestation Camp (NEW zoo area) I love going there..lots of singletrack. Being I"m still new Baird is a bit too technical for me..but it has places for beginner to advanced.

Hope this helps. There are other areas around too..LIke Kewaunee, Calumet, etc.

Do you compete in any WORS races?

I'm in west allis too, commute from their to brookfield for work. Use to ride downtown before getting new job, pretty much ride city streets everywhere. I have popped so many tires from garbage on the sides of the rode, that is my biggest problem.

i live in stallis...109th st/greenfield-ish to be more precise...west allis to tosa is a piece of cake...i commute down to oakland and north almost every day (ss/fixy) It's pretty great...I don't have trouble with puncture flats, but I was having a lot of tube trouble a bit ago...so yeah, there are plenty of people in mke that ride...i just rode out to grafton the other day..it was great...

:D I had to ride to that tow lot to pick up my car after I hadn't driven it in weeks because my bike had taken over. They towed me because my car had been parked in the same sspot for more than 24 hours. Couldn't believe it.

I used to commute all over Milwaukee visiting all my friends. From the Eastside (Right next to the Pasta Tree on Farwell) but now I live in Chicago

I commute in Milwaukee as well. From Marquette U to Oak Creek. My route is hella cleaner than everyone elses, i guess. I haven't had nearly as many tube problems as you cats.

I live in Downtown Appleton, but most often ride in Neenah or in Oshkosh. Good country road riding in both areas and a nice 25 mile trail that goes from Oshkosh to Hortonville. If anyone is in these areas, let me know.

The Wiowash Trail runs from Oshkosh to Hortonville, and I usually pick i up in Medina off old Highway 10 (now 96, I think) West of town. It's about 8 miles for me from downtown, there's a liquidator store across the street from a large parking lot where the trail picks up, just east of county M.

There's also a trail out near greenleaf by Wrightstown. I don't know exactly where it is, but Greenleaf isn't that large a town. They ask for a $2 or so fee to ride the trail.

They're both fairly flat and straight, but the Wiowash does have some small overpasses and a turn here and there.

Best-
Brian

Yeah, that's about all I know as far as trails are concerned. If there's a "real" trail, I'd certainly like to hear about it. :)

Try Calumet county park on the east side of Lake Winibago. They have some nice trails that wind up and down a ski hill. Maps at the park office.

I from Green Bay also. Brian anderson was talking about the Fox River Trail which is a old rail Road. That runs about 20 miles. It doesn't do into Calumet county yet. They haven't spent any money to extend it. Eventually it will run down by Lake winebago. As far as other places to ride near Green Bay there is the Reforstration camp/ NEW zoo. There is 10 miles+ of single track and even More double. The WORS is having a race there on 7-15-07. I'm really looking forward to that. That will be my first race.

... there is the Reforstration camp/ NEW zoo.

Man that brings back memories of several drives there just to ski on some snow, then drive back home. Cool place. I also did an XC ski race there ... -5F or something, I won the 15k race cuz I had more clothes covering my ... er, you know ... and the real fast guys did the 30k, but I still have that medal as my key chain. It was funny at the awards ceremony, because I was a nobody from Milwaukee, and everyone was looking at me ... who IS that??

http://emoticons4u.com/cool/653.gif

My girlfriend at the time was going to school at UWGB and it seemed like a nice place to ride as well.
Isn't there a place called "The Ledge" or something that is a big climb??

Sorry for the divergence.

You can also try barret's creek area, off of hwy 172, it was a good place to ride, but you have to watch out for the paint ball geeks and bird watchers. Just make sure you stick to the correct trails, to many riders have made cut outs and sortcuts around technical areas...i would bet that mtn bikers will loose another place to ride if we dont shape up.
NewZoo area is also good, check out the trails near Kewanee ATV park, WORS has a race there every summer!
Im always looking for someone to ride with! have a jeep will travel!

I live and ride in the Milwaukee area, but I have a friend I ride with who lives just north of GB. Ride out to UW-GB and follow the roads north along the bay. There are some good hills and long straight aways. To get as far north as Sturgeon Bay, you have to cross 41 (?) and head north up the middle of the Door Penninsula. But, there is a great riding community in the GB area.

You can also ride the trail west to Rib Mountain.

I did the WORS race there in August. Can you ride there anytime? Otherwise, from May to November Standing Rocks off Highway 10 near Point has ~ 13 miles of singletrack. Great workout. Not sure how far that is from GB.

I think that the Calumet Co park is open for bikes all summer. we were there a few weeks before the race and ended up in a few camp sites. really need a map.
