Kind of cool?! More like the coolest thing ever in the history of the internet.

this seems like a good section for sheldon brown-style mutations like

--making a tandem into a fixed gear bike (something mr brown has actually done http://sheldonbrown.org/bicycle.html#picchio )
--putting a 2-speed bendix coaster brake hub into a dahon folding bike (an idea i had the other day that i wonder if i can manage)

We used to take two shopping cars, and attach two ropes to the front of each. Then we'd have a friend drive his Trans Am at 100mph up a long stretch of county road while we'd stand up out of the t-tops facing backward. Each of us would hold the ropes for one cart, and as you pulled on the ropes you could cause the cart to weave dangerously in the road as it was towed behind the car. The goal was to ram the other person's cart and knock it over, at which point they'd have to let go or get pulled out of the car by the friction of a steel cage dragging along asphalt at 100mph. You could also drive past ramps at high speed and at the last second veer the cart to the side of the car and have it hit the ramp.

Ahh, those were the days. ;)

Oh, and unicycles count, especially if you made it yourself (but even if you didn't). ;)

Portland Urban Iditarod
Alaska’s Iditarod boasts more than 60 teams of dogs and sleds racing this weekend across the frozen tundra. Leave it to Portland to come up with a rival event. For a howling good time, witness the crazy antics of the 4th Annual Portland Urban Iditarod. Teams consist of four human “dogs” tethered to a shopping cart with one “musher” in a 4-mile footrace. The course begins at the fire station at 5 S.E. Madison St., heads north on Southeast Grand Avenue, crosses the Burnside Bridge, then winds through Old Town and downtown. The finish line is at Gov. Tom McCall Waterfront Park on the southwest side of the Hawthorne Bridge. Several stops are planned along the way for the dogs and mushers to rest and replenish their fluids, including Rogue Ales Public House, 1339 N.W. Flanders St., and Grand Cafe, 832 S.E. Grand Ave. Recommended places to observe the race are the starting line, the Burnside Bridge, Saturday Market and Pioneer Courthouse Square.
Families are invited to watch, but parents should be aware that teams — and costumes — may be of an adult nature. The only rest stop that does not allow minors is the Yamhill Brewing Company, 909 S.E Yamhill St.

Are they still doing this? I have one shopping cart converted into a trailer and a few more to work with. I think this would be extremely fun!!!
