here's the thread:
http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?p=1090738#post1090738
Several of us recumbent riders have complained about Spuds Mcdoogle. He's been banned from other boards - bicycling.com and bentrideronline.com for starters. He's all but driven the majority of the bent posters away - what once was a lively forum is mostly dead.
What's more is, he now has two other aliases. Magilla Gorilla and the Professor. The fact that their word choice, etc, is so close to each other makes it plain as day all three are the same person.
Therefore I'm asking one more time to have him removed - he's fixed it so I am relunctant to post anything at all for this guy replying. And I'm by no means the only one who feels this way.
Thanks for your time.

Ok heres the problem as I see it, I actually got involved with this (I lurked through the threads) quite a while ago. Now I can see why you guys are frustrated. However these are my opinions and my disgression, others mods may (and some do) feel differently.
1 - yes he is a troll, retro recumbent
2 - he is slightly antagonistic, but I think he is like a kid reacting to how pissed you get, If you all ignored him, you would be much better off.
3 - there is 0 proof he is all the same person. The ip's, subnets etc don't match up at all. YEs a smart inet user could get around this but with the vbulletin tools I have access to, this is a 0 proof situation. YEs they write similar, not enough in my eyes.
4 - we have a number of users who fit this category and worse. In fact some people have shown support for him. It just seems to me personally you guys have thin skin and can't take criticism, warranted or not. Every sub forum gets them, we just either ignore them or set them straight.
5 - I asked in a few threads and even pmed one of you asking for exacting proof he is a troll deserving of removal (moreso than the other 'trolls' on the forum) One of us mods even pmed the forum owner of one of the said forums he was banned from and got no response.
I am sorry, as a member, I wouldn't want to see him banned and as a mod I can't ban him as I would have to ban about 10 or 12 others. Hes a knob, agreed. Ignore him.
Maybe some other mods will disagree and ban the member but I don't see the need. I spent 2 or 3 three fulls weeks keeping an eye on him and his posts and I personally have put up with worse users than him.
I will report this post so all the mods can see it and do their own thing with it. Good luck. You guys have given a TONNE of virtual power to a user with only 130 some odd posts.

I agree that the best thing is to ignore him. But it does seem obvious to me that he does have at least one other alias. The thread to which aikigreg talks about makes me want to tell him off. But I won't. I won't lower myself to his level.
The problem I see is that if someone posts something he doesn't agree with, he starts in. That will make people not want to post. And I'm here to be entertained and learn. If people don't post, then how do I learn.

I thought he was entertaining when he first got here, and I defended him. I was wrong though. He definitely IS a troll, but a harmless one, and actively seeking to get someone else banned for anything but a ruthless personal attack is wrong, in my opinion. Some guys on these forums do a little trolling(ANOTHER Campy Vs. Shimano thread?:D) just so they have something to talk about on the weekends. I personally stick to the P&R forum, because every post is a troll, but it's okay 'cuz most everyone there has thick skin and came to debate in the first place.
You got guys like Spuds, who really like to get peoples goats, but that's about it. The "ignore list" is a good way to filter out the posts you don't want to see. The people that I see that deserve banning are the ones who make personal attacks on a regular basis,( and there's a couple of those guys running around that have been here longer than I have. ;))But I still think it's like elementary school stuff to go tell the mods like they were your parents or something, why not hit "ignore". To say everyone is gonna grab their ball and go home because of ONE guy who really is kind of funny if you don't pay him much mind is silly. That's how Nancy beat Freddy Krueger, that's how you can beat Spuds McDoogle.
I have been verbally attacked on here before, and pretty ruthlessly, and I've got a couple of cats on here I know don't like me who make their little jabs now and then, but it's the internet, and I really don't care, and I sure as heck am not going to go running to a mod like some little kid. Why can't people use the freakin' "Ignore" function? That's why it's there. I'm not defending trolls, just their right to be here!

Well, it's the mod's call. But many of us simply don't post at all because, even unprovoked and ignored, he hasn't gone away yet. And he won't. Like I said, it's happened at two other boards. But it's not my call. I simply won't be posting anymore on that forum until he's gone. My skin is plenty thick enough, as I've pretty much ignored him. But if you want the forum dead, s'okay by me. I highly enjoy the roadbike forum and others as well, since I do as much roadbiking and triathalon racing as recumbent riding.
