General Cycling Discussion - Bike Shops near Columbia, MD

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I will be visiting this area in a few weeks and am always on the lookout for good LBS'. Anyone know of any?

College Park (25 miles from Columbia?) has a couple of good bike shops. You'll find higher end bikes and interesting people. It's been a while since I been in there, hopefully some locals will help out.

If you want to see unusual bikes, check out the sister stores of Mt. Airy Bicycles or College Park Bicycles (see http://www.bike123.com/). Columbia is about equidistant between the two stores, 25 miles either way. They revel in recumbents, trikes, tandems, folding bikes, and they claim to sell shaft-driven bikes as well.

If you head the the College Park store, just ask for Chad (manager) or Charles. They're both great guys to work with.
If you go to Mt Airy ask for Larry (the owner) has more
bike lore than any 10 people I know

How come you did not ask about good rides in the area? Just kidding.
Mt Washington in Baltimore, has a good rep. 45 minutes about from Columbia center, in traffic.
Nice rides in area is a loop that goes along Illchester Road, super hill on it, listed in one of the biking guides. Its close to Columbia, anyone at the local shops could tell you about it.
