People magazine says Robin Williams will spend his 51st birthday riding in a team car during the Tour.Williams says "Its like being on the field in a football game. "(Man now thats how to spend a birthday.)Robin rides about 100 miles a week on one of his 50 bikes. Can you imagine 50 bikes! No, I rode that one 2 weeks ago...No ,that ones for Tuesdays...

Maybe he rides 2 miles on each of the bikes:D
The article also mentioned that he bought a tandem but his wife won't ride.

I wonder how much he $paid$ for this privilege?

Says Lance and Robin are friends so probably $0. I would let Robin ride for free if I was driving the team car.As long as he didn't make me laugh so much I ran off the side of one of the mountain stages:D

I'm sure the media attention his name generates is well worth allowing him to ride around in a team car all day!

Nice!
Robin has been at the Ride for the Roses for the last 3 years.
I've seen him ride and he is a good rider, remember he started
with Lance, Davis Phinney, Eric Heiden and a few others this year.
He kept up with them from what I'm told (I didn't see them
finish, I was out on the course huffin and puffin!).
Williams was at the final 2 years ago for Lance's 2nd TdF victory.
I'm more impressed that he has 50 bikes, than I am about Jay
Leno having a huge car/motorcycle collection that he never
drives.
If a celeb supports cycling, I'm all for it.

Robin @ the tour, Robin and Lance friends. Could Lance be using this as part of his strategy? Distracting the competition with Robin handing out autographs and stand up?

This is France. That would only work if Lance was friends with Jerry Lewis.

It would take somebody as good as Robin to top the farce of which teams got invited this year to the tour!!!

Maybe Robin can get Mrs. Doubtfire to be his second on the new tandem.
Can someone tell me where Robin Williams lives, he doesn't need 50 bikes, and I'd love to have a good road bike owned by a real star.

I don't know about any of you, but I wouldn't ride one of those things- what if someone saw me?
As for collections, Conan O'Brien has a neat collection of vintage guitars from what I hear- is that okay? Fifty bikes is a lot but still, better than 60 cars or a 60-room house. Maybe he'll auction some of them off for charity, like the pros do.

Robin Williams really is a hairy guy, isn't he? I agree, it's all right with me when a celeb- aside from cyclists- promotes cycling. More of them should follow that example.

Dug up some stuff on the hairy dude. Check out the third to last paragraph in this story (http://www.time.com/time/nation/printout/0,8816,214078,00.html) for bit on his cycling habits.

Robin Williams owns Santana tandems..... I'm sure he didn't pay too much for that tandem..
Last year he bought a Roark ti bike at the Ride For the Roses.
I do know he bought Whoopi Goldberg a Cinelli Laser.
As I said he is a serious rider.
How many of you could get your SOs on a tandem with you?

Not a chance.
We were out on a 80 km ride yesterday... We saw a tandem pass by and I said "Just hold a pillow over my face if I ever buy us one of those." She says "Sure thing."
So... what the Hell, I'm building up a cyclocross bike for her over the summer...
I mentioned a tandem to my wife, even suggested
we test ride one at the LBS.
Her attitude is "If we get one of those things you can pedal
I'm just along for the ride".
That said, I got dropped like a bad habit by a tandem on
a downhill.

Does he mountain bike or what? I know that he has a place up in South Lake Tahoe and visits the LBS up there where I got my road bike.
So how is Insomnia?

I heard insomnia was pretty good. My mom saw it and she said they filmed it in Alaska. So just that is enough to make me see it. I like his work too and Pacino as well. Seems like it would be worth a matinee, but hey, I'm cheap.
