Forum Suggestions & User Assistance - Forum tabs across banner part of page?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Is it possible to have a tab line across the banner of each page linked to each forum.

I have my favourite forums, but I have to scroll down after Advocacy and Safety (even more since the new forum was added).

bicycling.com uses the banner tabs (admittedly they have much fewer forums), but it sure saves a fair bit of time switching among forums, especially on dial-up.

I don't know if the software would allow a member to configure their own. For instance, default is eight blank tabs... the user can then specify which eight they prefer.

Joe?

Get a wheel mouse. Makes scrolling much easier.

What about using the forum jump bar at the bottom of each screen. Not as efficient but saves surfing time.

Or

Make a new fold in your favorites. Put one copy of each link to each of your favorite forums and then create your own navigation bar for bikeforums.

What I like to do to switch between forums without returning to the bikeforums home page, or going to that forum jump feature is to change the web address.

For example, this forum's address is :http://www.bikeforums.net/forumdisplay.php?f=160

Each forum's address is the same, except for the numbers after the f=.

To get to bike mechanics, I just enter 10 after the f= part. SS/fixed gear is f=178, etc.

It's really simple, and after a while you memorize all the forums f= that you view...

Or you can switch to Firefox then go down the list and open each forum that you want to read in a new tab.

It's all work. One the principles I learned way back in web page design is to make it as easy as possible for the least equipped person using it, including those on dial-up. I'm also thinking of those in internet cafes wishing to keep up with their favourite areas of interest -- that's when time is important and the other suggestions sort of fall over. While I am not least equipped, I just find the forum jumps on bicycling.com much more convenient. And I may well be in the internet cafe situation very soon.

I use Firefox, I usually have three or four other sites in tabs already. And I'd still have to set up the Go To pages.

It was just a thought.

Like Maelstrom said, what's so hard about using the forum jump drop down list at the bottom of each page?

It's a good suggestions, but not something I plan on adding at this time.

This really doesn't need to be implemented. Opera.
Ctrl+shift every forum you want opened in a new window.. done.

I use Firefox

Well, then you can use this (http://biketouring.eurotourism.net/ext/) poor excuse for a Firefox extension...
