So, Long Island is part of NY.:D

We Upstaters tend to forget.

For MTB, Plattekill is a couple of hours north for you. It's a downhill destination, and its XC trails are rugged and very technical. Bring your climbing legs or plan to buy a lift ticket.

Closer, but still a drive is the Stewart airport buffer zone in Newburgh. Never rode there, but it is supposed to have miles of singletrack.

Farther. Inlet, in the Adirondacks near Old Forge, has many, many miles of excellent mountain biking. Contact Ted at Pedals & Petals (a bike and flower shop!) for info. http://www.pedalsandpetals.com/

Also, there are a couple of books you can get. One is mountain biking in NY and the other is mountain biking in the Adirondacks.

Yes, Queens, NY <-- real NY :D

Anyway, I have to do some search where you are, but I am planning to ride from Queens to Oyster Bay this week end. Should be about 75 miles (yes, on my MTB)

I am still looking for a mountain.
