View Full Version : What is your dream bike?

I just got myself a new bike; after a hard and practical assessment of my skills, fitness level, budget and ambitions, I got myself a Trek Navigator 100. I'm happy with it, but I still think sort of wistfully of the articles that I read in cycling magazines, about the Tour de France, or hard core mountainbiking or some of the custom bike builders. As I get fit I can upgrade, I know, though I don't know where my ambitions will lead me.

But what is your dream bike? In a perfect world, what would you have?

One thing that made me think of it was a Bianchi on ebay - a minimalist bike - but very lovely, I thought.

She's a dedicated time trial bike, and she looks, rides and sounds (the sound of the wheelset is incredible) wonderful.

I don't know... maybe a Colnago from the 70s. I could also go for an early model Schwinn.

I'll own my dream bike after I win the lottery -- a Litespeed Vortex.

Until then, I'm riding a close second to it -- my Litespeed Tuscany. :D

I'm loving my Tuscany too, Ron. I've had it a week now so it's still a honeymoon. The mix of comfort and stiffness is as close to perfect as I may ever experience. The Tuscany will be my dream bike after I add a few bits here and there.

a white curtlo with blood red letters in a large but understated font and a bit of a traditional TIG build with a super stiff bottom bracket, custom steel cranks, custom steel stem, steel nitto handle bars (or maybe some custom steel bars if they'll save some wieght), veloce shifting and deurailing, record hubs, velocity deep v rims, a tompson elite seat post, schwalbe blizzard tires, kool stop pads, veloce brakes, phil wood stainless bottom bracket, bebop best pedals, a specialized avatar saddle in the 143mm width, brooks leather bar tape in the honey color, dt spokes, schwalbe tubes, some cat eye bottle holders, good cables with wite housing, the best steel cassette campy makes, campy aluminum record chain rings, sram power link chain (the cheaper stuff)

i think that's it.

Hmm, dream bike would have to be a mid-'80s Trek 770 crit bike. Steep 74/75 degree angles and a 37.5" wheelbase! The thing steers telepathically! :)

Isn't this kind of like "what's your dream sports car?"? The answer may very monthy and will definitely change yearly.

Alas, my dream bike isn't made, it's a bike for the real world and a real budget.
Triathlon geometry high aero bike like a P3 or Blade but with

1. aero front disk brakes
2. aero 900 to 1500 cu in bag, either frame or seat mount
3. aero fenders
4. aero control panel: lights, cyclometer, bell
5. aero front fork clearance lights
6. drive train with GI from 20 to 120 inches at no more than 14% change when shifting gears
7. barend shifters and aero bar builtin brakes
8. Frame cost about 1/2 current P3 or Blade.
9. lifetime warranty
10. composite or TI or combo frame

sigh,,,,,,, :crash:

Today it is a fully loaded Trek 520 with all of the latest and greatest touring gear on board.

Tomorrow it will probably be something different.
