Made this one about 5 years ago for a laugh with some friends. Damn near unrideable....

It had a motorcycle front wheel as a rear and a 5 speed jackshaft. Heavy and stoopid....but kinda fun ;)

If you want it to be more ridable, but ruin the sick paint job, make the steering angle steeper. closer to a read bike's.

Yeah - for sure....but then you lose the "stance"....and it's ALL about the "stance"..

BTW - I like the way you've done your chain on your tall bike. Very clever.

Like a piece of minimalist sculpture! I see you do have a front brake on there :D .

Do you ride this very far? I think the lack of different hand positions would bother me after a few miles.

Any bottled beer with a long neck is called a long neck. Long necks used to be only available at a bar. I used to go out especially to a particular bar that had Schlitz in long necks. (yes really. I was 18. What did I know? Plus it was 1982 and Sam Adams wasn't invented yet. so leave me alone about it.):)

It's a phrase that has less meaning recently as most breweries have gone to the long neck bottles.

Oh, and that bike is great!! Nice Job!

Thanks for the comments on the Long Neck :D

Yes, it is a bit of a play on words with the large beer bottle (and quite fitting as I thought of the idea after several brews were consumed...)

I haven't ridden it very far (I only got it assembled yesterday!), but I spun a few laps around the block with it and it's quite comfy to ride. It's a bit weird at v slow speeds, but once you get moving it's stable (it's got the same neck angle as a stock MTB, just a longer wheelbase).

It does put your body weight further back over the seat, so a sprung saddle might be my next mod....

in australia, a "long neck" is a 750ml bottle of beer. (about 25 oz). three of them for 10 bucks. yes, beer is very expensive here. i miss my pbr.

My latest "chopper" (?? - bit hard to categorise) has small rear and large front. It is indeed sweet. You can ride it no hands fairly easily. http://www.rat-patrol.org/RPOz/FArt/impala_impaler.html

that seems inherently dangerous for a young child to be riding next to a fence like that on a tallbike...
cool bike though

I've always thought these bikes were cool. How did you mount two freewheels on one hub, while allowing them to work independently?

Hey everyone, I'm new here.
After visiting Portland I got a taste for the minibike from riding with the Zoobombers. Here's my 19" frame with a 12" mag on the front. I've got to figure out better steering geometry because I get some scary wobbles at speed.

Crikey! :eek::thumb:

That has to be the king of all custom built tall bikes :D

countersTrike: - tell me more about your 'Rockhopper' trike. It looks to be a nice handy HPV, only I'd like to hear about how it steers with that centre pivot axle.

countersTrike
08-20-08, 08:45 AM
That Rockhopper was a plain old DF mountain bike. It has 2 small frames welded together to make a large front (straight or solid) axle. Mountain bike cut about 1' ahead of the seat-post, and then a headset welded on. Entire front axle bolted in to turn as a unit: painted. I saw and bought it already done.

Looks weird in scale. Wide, big wheels with knobby tires. Extremely hard to steer while braking- pulls right or left violently! That might be why it was sold, but I had the same problem with another trike- east fix.

That massive thing moves right along with plain gearing. I have not gone over 15, and don't think I ever will dare to; but for plain workhorse riding it will work nicely. I am putting panniers on it today. I do not like mountain bikes for recumbent trike part

This is my long bike. It works as a tandem as well, you just have to put another crankset, saddle and regular bars on it.
